FX Impact Barrel Kit Removal Question

So I've been noodling the idea of getting into an Impact. One of the things that I have wondered about the design, in terms of barrel kit removal - and how well it would hold up to the barrel being removed semi-frequently for transporting in a backpack.

In terms of wear and tear, are they designed well enough that they'd be able to hold up to (careful) disassembly / reassembly in the field? (Perhaps a couple of hundred times a year). I'd imagine the threading would eventually begin to wear down, although the materials that they use would play a big part in how long it would take before needing to be replaced.

I do understand the level of issues that some have had with the Impact, just wanted to get some insight on this specific aspect to figure out if it's doable.

The only wear part on the barrel when removed are a couple O-Rings that can easily be replaced if needed. I'd recommend changing as few times as possible if transporting as you might get some crud embedded in the O-rings or transfer port, that could effect the gun.

On the new model, you will need to carry a 3mm hex wrench and might want to carry a touch of grease for the O-rings.. and you might want to carry a few extra grub screws just in case.

The FX Impact was designed as a takedown rifle, so you should have no problems.

Thanks. I did some research today on the Impact, saw that they switched from a knob design to the hex grub screw (can imagine that change mitigated some user error and customer issues to a degree). I could get my hands on a custom low profile knob with a screw that would be an exact match for quicker detachment, although my Multitasker does follow me on my outings.

Cheers

Is possible and doable? YES, does it worth it?

I think there are better options for backpacking but all depends on what are you shooting at... and what are you looking for (insane accuracy? Hunting?) The impact is an F1 (car comparing) and need maintenance, so if you want insane accuracy probably is not the best option, like F1 cars you can take them for sure into a dirt road, but is the best option?

Don´t get me wrong, fx impact is a great field pcp (if not the best), but for backpacking I have my doubts (only for that). But it might work just fine.

This will be for larger birds on some private hunting property deep in the mountains. Long range and elevation variations, long hike to get there inaccessible by roads. I'd also use it for long range paper, it would be the right tool for the job.

I'm not dismayed by maintenance- doubtfully more difficult than an E90 M3 and a Jeep (TJ) Rubicon. I had a mechanical before I got into tech engineering 15 years ago.

I own a Impact and i love the gun,Have had no issues with mine. Its the 2nd gen with the S/T barrel .25 cal. I mostly shoot it and hardly clean the barrel much less any other maintenance.I got it tuned nice and get great accuracy out of it (average 1/2in at 60yrds) but.... if i was looking for a back pack gun i think i like the Leshiy you wouldn't have to take it apart just bring a pony bottle for air refills.

I have a Leshiy already, shot count isn't good enough at high power for what Im trying to do. The additional weight of a refill bottle doesn't translate to making sense, I have a 90ci bottle - 40 minute drive to get it filled (it also weights over 4lbs and just isn't worth it's overall weight).

I've climbed mountains and hiked for as long as I can remember. I've accumulated an ultralight kit over the years with the best gear that can be had, the way that I look at this is (in terms of cost benefit) is on the weight side and total shots that I can get out of that weight. The long distance and higher power capabilities of the Impact X seem to add up. My multi-day mountaineering gear (minus food and water) usually weights 15lbs to 23lbs total, depending on season (microspikes / cold weather gear in winter is heavier). I won't trek with a pack over 35lbs, as the absolute upper limit.

Then I will say: GO FOR IT, try impact x since it have build improvements (more solid)
I have 22 - 25 -30 cal and change barrel a lot, I have change barrels in the field too, no problems. Just remember to make a good maintenance, do chrony test of barrels if you change it, and check before and probably all will be 10-4

Roger that. I'll have an X in .30 with a 700mm STX this week, researching everything in advance before tuning anything. I'll order all of the replacement o-rings soon as well (bookmarked a great thread here the other day!)

I saw it and buy all of them too months ago :) . in AliExpress you will find the PUR90 C3 bumper oring very cheap (get busted easily, they where hard to find searching on ebay) https://www.aliexpress.com/item/PCP-HP-Fill-Station-Push-Valve-O-Rings-2-8-1-8-Polyurethane-90-Rigidity-10pcs/32817006182.html?spm=2114.search0104.8.8.1b1534133psSMM&transAbTest=ae803_4 and with master class videos on youtube + Ernest Rowe webpage, you have all the info you need. Once you mastered the impact, there is no match but take a while to get there

I had just started watching them, it looks a little over engineered! Sheesh, oh well - I'm a masochist for high maintenance items in general 😂

jajaja...been there...once you get it, is quite easy ... but still remember the first time I saw the disassembly video ... damn! jajaja (I bought the impact the next day! jajaja just kidding, I bought the impact X in April 2018)

Lol, it seems addicting nonetheless! Anyways, I might wind up just taking it easy with the Impact. I've admittedly never handled one, but I don't know if it would be rugged enough or ideal frequent multi-day backpacking trips. My Leshiy has been up to the task so far (minus the low shot count dilemna). I guess what I'm trying to say is that I have the feeling that I'm going to baby this one.

Well, I have the Prod (is not the leshiy, less power, less accurate but is multishot...and over 100 rats..I call it the rat slayer! jaja) highly modified for backpacking...and I love it with this stock http://marauderairrifle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=13108 ...

Here is mine

but then I miss my impact...then when I have the impact too much...I start to miss my prod ... so both are a great complement...probably with the Leshiy is even better

It seems that we have similar taste - I also have a P-rod! It's pretty good out to ~30m. Tell me about your stock! I thought of building one like that before I had added the RAI adapter and UTG AR stock..

I do like longer range target shooting, the Leshiy fills the gap that the P-rod is missing. The Impact will probably corrupt my sense of accuracy and range with what I know from the Leshiy! Almost afraid to shoot it, no turning back afterwards >.<
