FX hybrid slugs safe shooting distances down range

What's your incline angle? FX hybrids aren't like a .133 BC RBT .22 but they're around 0.08-0.1.

1700 metes is 5,610' or 1870 yards. I think you're okay. A .22 has a higher BC than a equal weight .25. I don't know what speed or caliber you are using.

I'm sending 32 grain .22's at 1040fps up to 415 yards in no wind and keeping sub 8" groups off a bag. They travel but I'm using roughly 37 mils to get there.

I recently came to my senses. Blew through a red squirrel at 118yrds with a 34gr slug. The ricochet sounded like a spaghetti western. It was like a smack in the face. I thought this is dumb. I whacked plenty of squirrels out of that tree line with pellets with zero concerns about what my pellet was going to do after the shot. For now I am just using slugs for big tough critters that kill the slugs energy and are close enough that I won’t miss. An innocent bystander is gonna take a slug in a neighborhood soon. I just don’t want it coming from my gun.

The BC and velocity will determine the effective range/distance. Use wadcutters (~.015 BC?) for short range. Use round nose for twice that distance (~.030 BC?), and use slugs (~.060 BC?) for twice the round nose distance.

If hunting, and want to have at least 50% of the muzzle energy remaining at impact, wadcutters should retain enough muzzle energy out to 25yds, round nose diabolos out to 50yds, and slugs out to 100yds.

The absolute distance will depend on which slug and what velocity, but if you have a mile of clear space, I'd say that you are OK.
