FX Hybrid Slugs shot from NON-FX gun -- AA S510 choked (I believe?) LW barrel

Scenario . . . upstate NY, this time of the year - daylight is precious thing. Granted we're getting more of it and it's not 'officially' getting dark now until just after 5:00pm - BUT - when you don't get off of work until 3:30 or so and live quite a distance from work . . . yeah - HUSTLE home when good weather presents itself as it did today with temp's in the mid to upper 40's. My FX Hybrid slugs finally showed up yesterday after having been on back order for more than a month but I didn't have time to do anything other than unbox them yesterday. I figured I'd buy a box or two just to try them out after seeing all of the initial reviews, write ups, etc that were so prevalent here and on youtube, etc . . . *EVERYONE* was all a ga ga over them but EVERYONE was also seemingly ONLY shooting them out of FX guns too.

Readers digest - I literally got home, setup a target out in the back yard - just paced it of by foot - 38'ish yards - and using these slugs managed to zero the scope and get consistent 5 shot groups at about the size of my thumbnail ( roughly the size of a US penny ). Target(s) were just heavy black "X" marks I sharpie marked on a 3/4" piece of plywood. Per the subject title - the gun is a US version (FAC for our British friends) of the Air Arms S510 XS Ultimate Sporter. Some (most?) of you likely know that this gun has a variable power feature on it - knowing that these slugs are "heavy" for this gun - I set it to full power.

So -- I actually got to shoot them, AND once zero'd, found them to be reasonably consistent and accurate. Light just about gone - but I'm not done playing - now I want to run them over a chrony that I have down in the basement. I fill the gun back up with air to 250 bar and then run it over the chrony. Oh dear . . . . 10 shots at FULL power - high was only 714, low of 701 - for an average of 706. :(

From everything I've (we've) read and scene via youtube videos and reviews - these slugs *really* are in their element at 900+ fps I believe. I'd sort of suspected that my AA wouldn't have the balls to sling these things like they need to be slung but figured I'd give 'em a go none-the-less. This gun wings out JSB 16's (15.89's) wicked good and I've taken pigeons at 75 yards with it. I do like the gun - just wish it packed a little more punch and had better shot count (bigger air reservoir) but - it is what it is.

I'm really looking at / waiting for the new RTI Prophet to get released, that Zbroia Sapsan looks interesting too - the JSAR Raptors look wicked too! So many new toys coming to market - so little funding for them. ( lol )

Not everyone tested them with their FX guns. I have never owned an FX. Here’s my thread on the Hybrids. https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/fx-hybrid-slugs-my-experience/

For what is worth, my speeds were low too, I think that’s mostly due to how tight fitting they are. However, very consistent. Frankly, a squirrel will not call foul play when a Hybrid slug drives into it’s cranium at around 700fps.

I’m pretty sure other folk tested them out with different guns too, but don’t really recall.

I’m pretty happy with the results. They give me a viable option to use slugs if I want to. All others have not shot well at all and I don’t want to buy a dedicated slug gun right now.

I hear you there!! I am very much waiting on the RTI prophet. I had the priest 2 in 25 and damn it was tight and easy to adjust the power output without tearing it all apart. Have you watched Jim Chapman's video of him shooting the 22 cal prophet with the 25 gr jsb redesigned at 850 fps?

I am hoping they come out with the .25s so I can give them a go on my PT Cricket. I slings 34gr King Heavy at around 940fps. Depending on weight and fit, I have some hope they will fair pretty well.

Air Arms builds a beautiful gun but for the life of me I don't understand why they refuse to add hammer spring adjustment for the US market.... And I've even noticed in interviews with the owner she is mainly focused on European market and field target competition!

I bought some hybrids from the first batch and been shooting them in my Taipan Veteran long with stellar results....maxed power in stock form they were doing 860fps and really consistent! But now I have acquired a power hammer spring and have it turned to shoot them at 930fps and wow there a squirrels worse nightmare !

On a side note I've shot some NSA 17.5s in my s410 and was really surprised at how accurate they were...haven't chrony them yet but they were really impressive at 40 yards! They measure .2165 so just a slight bit smaller diameter. Have some 20.2 grain also but haven't got the chance to test yet...

i tried them in my mutant, set to 30fpe for jsb pellets, got about 22fpe, about 670fps...very tight fitting to chamber, and they were covered in lead flakes.

lastly, the hollowpoints on mine aren't centered or even consistently placed. most of the flakes seem to come from the hollowpoint to.

I wish I hadn't bothered buying them, I have about a hundred left if someone wants to trade for some pellets.
