FX Hybrid .22 Slugs Danger Zone?

I have found a gray squirrel paradise on the edge of a small village, Shagbark hickory, black walnut and oaks. I'll be using .22 FX Hybrid slugs at around 900fps. What is the maximum distance these are likely to travel with shots into the treetops?

I'm not worried about lethality as any shots I take upwards will be at steep angles so the projectiles will only be falling under gravity. Still, I don't want any projectiles falling into somebody's backyard hot tub.

Using 900 FPS
At 600yds there still at 5 fpe at 790 3 fpe according to sterloc ... so treat slugs like rimfire.

on the other hand a jsb hades at 100yd will be about 10fpe and at 290yd 1 fpe . So my advice is go a crappy bc pellet since distant building are a concern

Not worried about energy as gravity will take it's toll when shooting up into the treetops, say 60 + degrees (50' up from 25' away from the tree base). It's the shots at 6 to 20 feet that would have the maximum energy when they reach the ground. I will avoid any shots that would not have a solid backstop in that trajectory.

The BC and velocity are very close to .22rf Shorts.

Here are the types of shot angles I would most likely encounter.

I would be inclined (pun intended) to simply stick with pellets in such a situation.

The "slug craze" has brought previously unheard of practical ranges to the airgun game...But! Don't dismiss the lowly pellet. At reasonable airgun shooting distances, the pellets will be Just as accurate (Perhaps More so), cheaper and will kill game just as dead as any slug.

Just my opinion, hope it is of help to ya.

Gravity will increase fpe at long range just like an archer's arrow. Don't underestimate the power of high bc.

"High BC" is a relative term. In CF rifle bullets a "high BC" is somewhere over .500. We are talking a BC of .08 here.

The terminal velocity of a 23gr projectile with a BC or .08 is 331fps, still significant, but drag will be more of a factor than gravity.

Pellets gets my vote! Too much risk involved with slugs in populated areas. Like it was stated earlier, treat slugs (possibly heavy pellets also) like a powder burner! They are basically reaching the BC of sub-sonic powder burners, and IMHO should be respected as such!

The BC and velocity are very close to .22rf Shorts.

As noted above.

Agree totally. Firing such a projectile upwards anywhere near people could be quite dangerous. Someone from the "village" could be hiking in the area, or kids playing somewhere in the woods, even if the shooter isn't firing "toward" the village. One unfortunate occurence in this realm could cause many unwanted consequences, and not just for the shooter in question but possibly for all air gun shooters.

In the "old days" we were relatively safe in low risk of damaging anything we couldn't see while shooting. These days, with slugs and even very heavy pellets, that "bubble of safety" may have been popped. Extreme caution would probably be advantageous in the described situation. Actually, probably in EVERY situation. JMO, as noted.
