FX GLADIATOR MK2 .25 REGULATED

Sub 1/2 inch groups @ 50 yds seem to be par for FX smooth twist barrelled rfles - with the right pellets - which is very good imo.

Is your Gladiator MK2 as it came from the FX factory?

The FX site gives the spec for the Galdiator MK2 .25/6.35 as 45ftlb / 60J at 900fps / 270ms which indicates a 25gr pellet is being used, which looks exactly like what you are getting...

I ask this - not because I am questioning your data - but because I have recently ordered a regulated FX Royale 400 in .22 (it hasn't arrived yet - long waiting time in UK) and like you, I cannot find any absolutley difinitive data on what it's power output will actually be out of the box. The FX website says 30ftlb / 47J at 920fps / 280ms (but it used to say 36ftlb) which would indicate a pellet weight of 16gr is being used, although it specifies the regulator is as an addition, so not a standard option.

Then to confuse me further people have published online that regulated versions of the Royale are producing power levels ranging from 28ftlb /40J to 34ftlb /46J (obviously pellet weight is a factor but not the whole story). Then when I ordered a Royale 400, the UK importer questioned my choice of getting a regulator fitted because he said: it reduces the power from 36ftlb down to 28ftlb. I don't know if they had non-regged versions in stock and wanted me to buy one of those, or whether people publishing data online are getting it wrong but something doesn't add up.

Personally I don't see the point of power at the expense of efficiency and potential accuracy so I don't mind too much, after all we don't have wild pigs to shoot here (yet!). But it is confusing, to me at least...

Can you or anybody shed light on this?

I think publishing this kind of data does help people to make the decision as to which rifle to go for, I have found it very hard to find somewhere that stocks FX guns to get the feel of them - let alone shoot one!

I think I will post some "out of the box" data and first impressions when the Royale arrives.

The Gladiator has a lot going for it like having a regulator, high shot count and adjustable power. I was looking for an air rifle recently that could do it all as far as pesting and small game hunting. I was looking at the Gladiator but the extra weight and size of the rifle was not good for me in lugging it around in the woods and through brush. As far as calibers which caliber to choose .22 cal. or .25 caliber. in the end I got the baby brother to your Gladiator the Verminator in .22 cal which had the balance of power and shot count and power wheel for various pesting needs. Then I got a Wildcat in .25 cal. for small game for its short and lighter bullpup length and increase power to take out up to medium small game. I really do like the Gladiator capabilities looks like you have a winner there for performance and accuracy. Good of you too to provide others your shot count, velocity and accuracy results. Bill

The reg should not matter unless they turn it way down, you will have to adjust your hammer spring tension to get the tune you want, may even have to adjust the reg pressure. Should have no problem achieving max FPE in either caliber. In 25 the hammer is heavier with an added weight. And the valve spring has a different retainer. Allows it to open more.
