Shooting JSB 15.89g @ 566fps off a 230 bar fill down to approx. 135 bar yields 78 shots before POI begins to drop.

Shooting 21g slugs @ 881 fps off a 230 bar fill down to approx. 140 bar yields 27 shots before POI starts to drop.

gendoc and darylm,

Thanks!

Covid_hunter,

Sub 12 ft/lb with 15.89g is quiet, 35 ft/lb with the 21g slug not so much(that takes a full moderator to quiet down.

Long_Gun_Dallas,

It's the Saber Tactical chassis, so it's top notch. Tight lock-up with no play, easy push button release, buttery smooth movement, and it magnetically snaps into place and stays put(unlike the Dream Tact folding stock, which flops open with gravity while folded) when folded.

I kinda want to get rid of my dream tact and build a crown tact now. Do you mind me asking the cost of a set up like this.

crown continuum: 2100

ST chassis: 575

DTC tube: 200

So total should be around 2900 plus tax and shipping depending on where you buy.

you can try to get a used crown but finding barrels has been harder than mining gold.

jcdavis1281,

I kinda hope FX USA or Utah Airguns Custom shop sees this setup. qball's prices are correct "new", but you may have some components or be able to find some used for cheaper. It will be less expensive for the shooters who already have a Crown with a 380mm barrel and find the Dream Tact.... well, less than perfect? Just buy the Saber Tactical chassis ($575) and you can make the "bottle version"(see previous thread) of the Crown Tact Compact, with no need to buy a "whole new compact gun". Pickup an FX170cc tube w/valve for about $200 and you can make this "tube version". This particular incarnation is a Crown MK2 with a 380mm barrel, which Utah Airguns(and maybe Pyramyd Air?) sells for about $1699. Ken at SPAW offers a "naked" Crown MK2(no stock) for about $1400 and an ST chassis for $575. He will assemble them if you buy them together.

I think this setup is having " the best of both worlds". It is very compact(backpack or "truck gun"), lightweight, hand pump friendly, delivers a lot of shots using low power tunes, VERY accurate, and HIGHLY adjustable- You can go from sub 12ft/lb to over 35ft/lbs with a just turn of 2 knobs(if you set the reg appropriately), as well as, being able to change calibers(from 177 to 30) in less than 5 minutes. It will shoot pellets or slugs equally well. The more I use it; the more I like it:)

@jcdavis1281: don’t sell your DTC, you will regret it. There is no real advantage to have a crown compact vs DTC. Both guns will have more than enough power to over run the short barrel and both have the same adjustments. Outside of because I can there is no real benefit or up upgrade from DTC to a crown compact. I have both, love them both and both shoot at same speed/power. My DTC is still lighter and that’s my super light weight setup and crown is really just for fun and much nicer to shoot offhand with the laminate stock.

keep in mind the crown compact will be far more expensive for basically the same thing as DTC at 1250. Some of us have a bunch of FX parts left over from other FX guns so it doesn’t sting as bad but if you were to get it new then it will cost almost as much as a delta wolf. It is obviously up to you to decide whether if it’s worth while, it is cool and unique.

It's not for everyone for sure. I had a Crown and was very happy with it, but wanted a more compact version that I could use as a truck gun. So I ordered a Dream Tact Compact from UA. When I got it, I was VERY underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong though, it is a VERY fine airgun, but after having enjoyed the Crown, I found so many things about the DTC to lacking. If I hadn't used a Crown, I would have LOVED it! Same way with the Airmaks Katran Compact which I recently purchased. So the DTC got sent back to UA and I sold the Airmaks.

These are some of the targets that I used to determine how many shots per fill of each projectile I wanted to use. I shot these back to back to back in the same "real world" conditions:

88 shots off a 230bar fill:

70 shots off a 230bar fill:

2 targets with 30 shots each of a 230bar fill:

I simply couldn't get this kind of performance out of the DTC.

@Ghostranger169: I’m surprised that you didn’t the the performance you wanted out of the DTC. I found my DTC performed every bit as well as my crown, I found DTC has a bit quieter hammer ping and has more shots because I have a lower reg setting. The crown MK2 has a lot more power so without turn up the reg to 140bar I can’t get it to shoot at the speed I want. They run the same barrels and even with different tunes they both shot exactly the same. Had no issues getting 4-5 mags but I have a lower power tune @7.5 FPE.

BTW, I usually has Utah ship my guns without tuning so they can ship faster, plus I retune my guns as soon as I receive them regardless.😂

qball,

I'm equally as surprised that someone would find that a DTC would perform every bit as well as a Crown. I guess it has to do with what each person is looking to do with their own airgun, and personal preference. For a low- medium power tune, I can definitely see your point of performance being similar. To each his own. I'm not gonna include my list of reasons I prefer the Crown because I don't wanna come off as disparaging what is a FINE airgun in the DTC. And some of them are definitely just personal preference. Some are not. A closer look at the last target I posted will reveal at least one bit of objective data to compare.

Thanks for the tip on selecting the "no-tune" for faster shipping. I usually end up re-tuning my airguns after the first shooting also😜

You are correct that the Crow MK2 definitely has more power, no doubt about it! I had to resort to 140 bars at the reg to get it show low enough for my back yard. However the DTC most likely comes with light 7 gram hammer which makes it useless at anything above 120 bars reg pressure without upgrading to the 11 or 13 gram hammer. I left mine alone because I don’t plan on shooting high power, for now. With extra plenum and heavier hammer the DTC might surprise you. But at the same time the Crown does have much bigger valve and few other things. Either way as long as you are happy with your guns that is what matters.

Next time when you order from Utah air be sure not only choose no tune but also follow up with a call. I specified no tune and 2 days later my crown still didn’t ship so I called in the morning and sure enough it’s waiting for tuning. Told them to just ship as it is with no tune and it was with FedEx that after noon! Guess they tune all guns as a habit? LOL
