FX Crown barrel droop

Hi , I wonder if somebody tried to put some "shims" between the carbon bottle and the shroud on a FX Crown to reduce barrel droop when fiiting a big moderator .It seems that barrel band doesn't work really well, as I wrote in another topic.

My idea was to put some kind of self-adhesive rubber foam on the bottle , under the shroud . The thickness should be a little bit less than the space between bootle and shroud to avoid putting some stress , and at the same time to support the shroud and compensate for the weight of the moderator.
 
 

What I did is to drill a little conical hole in the barrel , exactly where the grub scew set . Then , on a lathe , I gave the screw a conical end so , when thighten in the conical hole , the barrel cannot move anymore. This is the way the barrel is mounted on my Cricket.

First, barrel droop is not important. Where the gun shoots is where the gun shoots. As long as it is consistent, it doesn't matter. Secondly, I don't understand why the barrel/ bottle band would not work better than shims of any material between bottle and barrel. The one I bought from Ohio Airguns works perfectly and my POI shift from session to session has completely disappeared.
 
So, I agree with you steve-l, barrel droop is not important but consistency is. But this implicates that the barrel moves the same way relatively to the action , and of course ,to the scope.

If after each shot the barrel comes back to exactly the same position , that's ok. In the case of the Crown, the way the barrel is attached to the action is very sensitive to any little bump that can occur. That's the point which worries me a bit. Unfortunatelly , barrel band for aFX Crown are not available here in Belgium , otherwise I would go for it, and test one.
 
I could see how barrel droop would not matter when shooting in the same position like benchrest or bipod shooting, but what about hunting situations? Would the barrel have the same degree of droop at 45 and 90 degrees or any angle for that matter? Is it rigid enough to just droop and not bounce from shot to shot?

If you point your gun at a 45 degree angle you will have a lot worse problem than barrel droop. A level gun is essential to accuracy. It is why you see people with scope levels. 5 degrees of tilt could equate to over an inch of POI shift at the target. 

Similarly, if you are bouncing your gun when you fire accuracy is out the window. Steadiness is core to accuracy. "Aim little. Miss little."
