FX Crown .22 Does this shot count seem right?

So I have a FX Crown .22 Pepper Laminate. It is a Gen 1 Crown and the regulator does creep ever so slightly, but this does not bother me. I filled my gun to 3600psi , but I did not start shooting over the chrony until 3100 psi. Power wheel set to Max and Transfer port set to .177/.22.

I recorded 72 Shots with average of 888fps and a SD of 3. Gun shoots lights out! Shot number 71 fell off the reg and was 876fps. I'm guessing that between 3600 and 3100 psi that I shot maybe around 20-25 shots?

So bringing my total shot count to somewhere around 100 at 31fpe.

Even though I have an SD of 3, would a Huma regulator assist with efficiency any?

I saw a post by Bob_O , https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/fx-crown-22-shot-count/

He got 113 Shots on Reg with 500mm barrel at 33 fpe.

Maybe that Crown has a better Gen2 or Gen 3 reg?

Or maybe I just need to try the crown with transfer port at the .25/.30 mark and see what that nets me shot count wise.

Thanks for any advice guys!

A huma reg will not change anything regarding efficiency. The reason it gives more shoots on a gun like the wildcat is that the reg fills less space in the tube, and gives a larger plenum size, that is not the case on the crown. So as long as your reg is working fine when you shoot, there is no need to change it. You say the velocity drops when you are off the reg? That looks like your gun is tuned right at the max velocity with the current reg pressure you have. That might not be the most efficient. Normally the velocity should increase when you are off the reg. It is also hard to "copy" settings from other guns, as the pressure gauges is not that accurate, and the guns might not behave the same.

Ahh. Yes.

i have not thought about that yet. I may try turning up the Reg just a bit. It shows regulated at 138 Bar. I should have realized this. I have spent a ton of time tuning my B-Rod and this still did not dawn on me. Thank you!

I know now it’s hard to copy other guns, but I look at other tunes as a baseline for what is possible with this type of gun.

I could easily just go for less power, but I don’t want to do that.

Time to find out what the shot string looks like with high reg pressure.

Hi,

I suspect that your gun is set up for .25 with those settings. I would like to see what it does at default settings first, so reg pressure at about 120-130 bar and hammer spring adjuster between 18 -18.5 mm. I really think that your FPS is great, IMHO the 18 grain jsb seem to like between 880 and 915 barrel dependant. Its a small adjustment that needs to be made to increase efficiency, but the adjustment needs to be made to the system rather than just one component, I.E. reg and spring, maybe port...

While I am far from an expert, I have generally found that with .22 air rifles, that a lower reg pressure tuned to the "knee" of the power curve tends to yield better results in terms of shot count. If your gun is performing well at 888fps then I would try and achieve that speed with a lower reg pressure. The lower set point will result in more shots, tuning the spring to the Knee will hopefully also result in a more stable shot cycle.
