So...I’m absolutely loving the 30 cal x in 700mm. That said, it costs as much to shoot as I expected, but I underestimated how much I’d actually be shooting it. Air isn’t the biggest issue because I have a compressor and a big tank, although it does suck it up fast. But man, I can shoot a tin of pellets at $18 ea in about 30 min. Been contemplating my options. Of course, getting another gun in 22 is one option. A less expensive option would be to get a caliber swap kit in 22 and 600mm. But I’ve worked so hard to tune it up properly for 30. Really the hard part was finding exactly where to set the reg. Is it possible to shoot it in 22 with the reg set at about 149 (assuming my manometer is close) and just turn the hammer spring waaaay down? Is it even possible that it shoot well like this? Will I save a lot of air due to the valve being open less time, or will it still be terribly inefficient due to the reg being technically too high for a 22? Any help appreciated. It’s my first pcp and I hate to change the reg so that I can quickly swap barrel kits n change the hammer spring depending on what I want to shoot that day. If I have to adjust the reg each time then it definitely won’t work for me.

Legitimate question.

I don't know if this will help, but this is my plan.

I have a Crown 22 that I will tune for high power to shoot slugs. I anticipate 150bar with near Max hammer wheel setting.

So when I want to shoot lighter pellets, I will need to reduce power. Right now I am at 140bar with 18gr pellets at 928fps and Mid hammer wheel setting.

So my options will be these:

1. Leave reg pressure at 150 and just lower hammer wheel setting for target velocity....probably not the best option but only shooting over the Chrono will tell for sure.

2. Set reg pressure back to 140 and hammer wheel to previous setting.

I'm not opposed to adjusting the reg pressure each time if that gives me the best results. That said, I'm willing to leave reg pressure high and just back off the hammer wheel setting as long as performance doesn't get erratic.

I will know more next week when my slug liner gets here and I get some time on the Chrono.

Excellent. Please let us know your results. It’ll help me out a lot.

Nice. The sound of the 30 now is perfectly fine for me. I’m sure it will be at least a bit more quiet with the hammer turned down to shoot 22s. I also don’t care much if it’s less efficient than it could be, as long as I still get significantly more shots per fill. If I had better manometers it wouldn’t be so hard to tune it, and I probably wouldn’t mind needing to retune each time.

You can always get some Wika gauges down the road if you want. Nice upgrade.

I tune mine with hammer all the way open .then open reg a little at a time untill I get the speed I'm looking for then close hammer until speed just starts to lower. Really not to hard if you know the speed it shoots you pellet best . the hard part for me is changing pellets and finding the happy speed for the new pellet.

Just barely over 100 bar to get 18s up to low 900s

I guess that tomorrow I could waste a tank of air. Turn the hammer all the way down n see how many shots it takes to fall off the reg. It may not be perfect since there won’t be any back pressure from a pellet which I guess may possibly affect it. Not sure how I feel about dry firing it that many times in a row though. I know it’s ok too, but 40-150x consecutively? Thoughts?
