Just wondering is it possible to take a 30 cal boss and convert it to a high power 25 cal?

Sure you can, i got the idea from Weatherby. I have one that shoots .25 (up to 78fpe so far). And liked it so much i made my royale 500 into one too and shoot .22 (62fpe)
Use Royale 400-500 cocking parts, probe and guide. For barrel either get one machined to fit the Boss breech or modify STX barrel to fit the Boss.

Yeah i have i have a .22 lothar walther unchoked polygon barrel. Does very well with slugs. The Boss has the same or maybe more power as Impact/Crown. The new MKII impact should have more id imagine.
Waiting for some people to get their hands on the .25 slug liners to see if they shoot well.
Ive installed Huma regulators in both which i find add a but of power with more plenum space and ability to run higher reg pressures.

Glem, what is the shot count with the 62fpe .22? If you build a .22, is there any advantage starting with an FX500 as opposed to the Boss?

Well the Boss only came in .30, so you need the Royale parts for the caliber specific stuff. Also no .22 or .25 "boss" barrels so a solution needs to be found for that.
The shot count wasn't great maybe 35 shots or so. 230-155 or so.

Glem, I think I changed my text while you were responding, but I read the previous discussion from December and get the general idea. I wonder if I might be happier with 50fpe and a larger shot count in .22. My head spins with all the possibilities and I have been a little hesitant to jump in. I have a Boss, and my main reason for selecting .30 was to get a good impact reading on near misses in the field with that big 44.75 grain pellet. Thanks for sharing your experiences with everyone.

I see that now, i was able to get about 45 with the royale 500 in .22 and just over 60fpe in .25 for comparision.
Boss has bigger ports from the valve to transfer port, bigger valvepin and bigger port from plenum to valve chamber. Its noticeable, both guns can be tuned however youd like. 50fpe with 50 shots would be doable with the Boss in .22.
