FX Bobcat Mk2 reg vs. Huma reg (adjustment question)

I saw a few videos online on how to adjust FX regulators, and I just want to make sure I got it right.

From my understanding, this is how to adjust the reg pressure:

My [Bobkat Mk2] regulator has a lock-nut, a few washers and a copper ring that screws in and out.

1. You loosen the lock-nut, using an Allen wrench to stop the valve stem from turning.

2. You loosen it enough so you can turn the copper ring (?).

3. When you have the pressure you want, you tighten the lock-nut screw again, using the Allen wrench to stop the valve stem from turning.

I understand that it makes the most sense to do this if you have a tool that measures the pressure while having the reg on the bench, compared to having to put it back in, just to see the reg pressure. Correct!?

Having said that, this is how I believe a HUMA reg works:

1. Take the reg and turn to the desired pressure, which is displayed on the reg itself.

2. Put it back into the gun and you are done.

Is that correct? If so, I would think that you can adjust the reg pressure (HUMA) while the reg is in the gun, thus making it easier, faster and eliminating the need for the tool?

I appreciate any input.

Thanks,

Kmd

I've never adjusted the FX reg, but I think there are Ernest Rowe videos to show you how. I replaced mine with a Huma because the FX one started creeping badly. For the Huma, just turn the top screw to the pressure that you want, and it'll be close. Yes, for a Bobcat once you take off the pressure tube and the ported nut that screws into the action between the tube and action, you can see the reg. No need to remove it to adjust it. Although it is hard to read the settings while its still in the action block. You can't adjust it while it is pressurized, since you need to remove the air tube first...

I watched those videos, but still, not sure how to do it 100%. Anyhow, if you look at this video, you can see him pull the regulator out of the Bobcat. It is "backwards", if you want to call it that, with the adjustment screw facing away from you, thus making it impossible to change the reg pressure while the reg is still in the gun.

Having said that, I believe I just answered half of my own question... No matter how the HUMA reg works, if it is facing the same way the FX reg is (which it should, right), then you cannot adjust it while in the gun as well. However, since the markings on the reg are some what "accurate", there is still no need for that tool...

Thanks,

EDIT: Look at 07:30. That is when he takes the reg out.

The Huma faces the opposite direction than the stock FX reg. Many people have made the mistake and inserted their Huma's backwards because of that...Once you get to the point where you can see the reg, it takes two seconds to remove it, so adjusting it while in the gun doesn't really gain you anything...

No. You use a 3mm allen key and hold in the middle. Then a 10 mm ad turn the nut klockwise to increase reg pressure. Turn a little bit first. You dont have to turn much to increse reg pressure.

This is how, don't mess with the "Copper" (brass) knurled bit. Just pull the reg out with tape wrapped pliers and do as said above. A tiny turn will make a difference.

I found out You need a reg tester to adjust the FX regs , I agree with everyone comment about Pliers with tape to remove it I would not take the seat apart You will be sure to have different settings. I once wasted ton of time and air trying to set one , then I got regulator testers , Centercut is rite too I have had 2 fx guns here people put them in backwards too they face other way , different design ,I like the huma regs better then The FX ones . When ever I have an issue with them I upgrade them , I too had them creep ,

With the wildcat you can install a second gage to read reg pressure , but If you had to use this to adjust reg it would sure waist alot of time , best thing is have it set up in a tester by someone or buy a reg tester or an aftermarket regulator which has some sort of scale , HUMA , ALTAROS , ROBERT LANE.

The Huma reg faces the opposite direction!? Good to know! Thanks for pointing that out.

I guess my understanding on how adjusting the reg works, was based on an old video I saw of Ernest doing it. He was talking about taking the gun apart, taking the reg out, adjusting it, putting it back, then using this special little air bottle he made to put pressure back on so he can read the gauge, if the pressure is where you want it... move on, if not... de-gas it and start from the beginning again. I had no idea that they now use reg tools that allow you to check the pressure before putting the gun back together.

That said. I can see why you said what you did. Once I see the reg it is not such a big deal anymore to just take it out.

Thanks for all the info!

Roger that... thanks.

check out the huma site. their installation is very easy and well explained. but....important note; to go down yes, just dial it down. if going up go past where you want it set, then go back down. huma regs are far better than the fx.

Man, I cannot believe I didn't check there first! Well, thanks for pointing it out. I just went there and you are right... lots of info on there!

Thanks,

Just like I told Centercut, I did not know that there is such a thing as a reg tester. : ). Anyhow, now I know!
