FX Bobcat .25 with Hugget Moderator

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone out there has had the Hugget moderator installed onto their Bobcat .25 that can give some of their thoughts on it. I'd like to quiet down my BC a little for the backyard but it would require shipping my rifle to AoA for the install. I don't feel comfortable shipping a perfectly shooting rifle (I've seen firsthand how many delivery guys handle packages on the trucks) so the other option is to purchase a new MK2 from AoA and have them fit it prior to shipping it out to me and then selling my old BC. Thanks in advance!

Pulps,

I had a .30 Bobcat and had the Huggett installed. It was definitely effective at reducing the bark produced by the gun.

If you already have a .25 Bobcat and want to add a Huggett, I suggest removing the stock and air cylinder and sending just the action with barrel and shroud. It makes it more compact, weighs less, and cheaper to ship. Just make sure you wrap everything securely in bubble wrap and use pluck foam to safely hold everything nice and secure. I have found some of the best packing materials to leftover foam when receiving pellets from Pyramyd Air (the black foam cutouts around the tins). That stuff it gold!

Now if you are planning on buying a new Bobcat Mk2, just order the Huggett with the Bobcat and AOA will install it for you prior to shipping.

Hope that helps,
Scott

Hi All - I have a 25 Bobcat on order at AOA and should be shipping in 2 -3 weeks and I am concerned the BC might need the Hugget. I have a Marauder and a HW 100 and use them in the back yard without complaints from the neighbors. Does any one have the un-shrouded BC and can compare it to the other rifles. I would say the Marauder is a bit quieter than the HW 100 so if the Bobcat is some where in between then I would be satisfied. Any help would be appreciated.

Micbro-
In the US the laws are different. All Huggett Shrouds and the Belita's, Magna's, etc. are bonded (Glued together). It has to be done at AOA the Huggett US Distributor.
Cheers- Hunter

???? Scott- Is the shroud also bonded to the BobCat? To bad you just can't screw off the shroud and send that in a tube made out of PVC with two end caps.

Hunter,

I ended up just ordering the new BC MK2 with the moderator installed. It's too much hassle shipping a rifle and risking damage. Besides, I only own 1 rifle currently. Even though I don't shoot daily, the thought of being without one made the choice easier.

I'f i'd have known before that I could have just bought an LDC from Neil, I would rather have just done that instead. Oh well, too late now.

Cheers- HunterDidn't know that hunter but thanks for your reply. Why does it have to be bonded? It seems strange that here in the UK where gun laws are very strict, we are relaxed over such a matter. Or is it down to the power of the rifles you guys are using?

There is too much paranoia about moderators on air guns in this country, I have been making moderators and shrouds in the USA for nearly 5 years. I have had lawyers and police officers order them from me and have had Sheriffs deputies visit my home and inspect them. They have told me they have no problem with me making them or selling them since they do not come under the control of the Alphabet org. A federal judge has ruled that the Alphabet org has no control over air guns so they have no control over what is used on them. . If you look at the trend over the past 4 years, makers have started to sell air guns with moderators on them, some even have screw on moderators. They do not have to be bonded to the gun to make them legal. The only problem I see is shipping them through customs, they could get confiscated, not because of the legal issues, but because there are many officials who are unaware of what the law is, and good luck fighting with customs to get your gun back. For this very reason I refuse to ship any of my products to other countries, although I do know some of my customers have and have had no problems doing it. Neil.

The Huggett Moderator on the Bobcat MK2 (25cal) places the noise foot print at the sides of the end of the moderator and stays with the shooter. The stock Bobcat MK2 moderator allows some of the shot sound to continue out past the rifle towards the target. Both are very quiet (backyard friendly) but there is a perceivable difference in the noise level with each set up. At the indoor gun range without significant sound deadening (concrete walls and ceiling) both produce a noticeable but subdued report. Outdoors the noise level of the shots are insignificant.
While testing with the chronograph I had squirrels stealing nuts and seed from the feeders. They continued about there little lives hiding those stolen goodies while I shot over them at my target as if I wasn't there. The shots did not disturb them in the least. The doves continued to feed as well and they are about as skittish as a bird can be. What I am relating here is that your game in the field will not take the report of the rifle as a perceivable threat...but when you move in the woods that movement is a seen as a perceivable threat.
As to shipping to have a Huggett installed? It is my opinion that if you already have the rifle you would be laying out some significant coin to have the Huggett installed with the additional cost of the shipping to and from AoA. It may not justify the risk in shipping and the cost. Now if you decided to ship to have the rifle resealed or major problem anyway then by all means include the Huggett install as part of that work order.

Yeah, that is why I decided to buy a new Bobcat MK2 with Hugget preinstalled by AoA. I wish I stuck to my plan of selling my old Bobcat *after* receiving the new MK2 to be sure I liked it. I would totally sell the MK2 and keep the old one in hindsight. My neighbor said the noise level was about the same to him. Perhaps the moderator deafens the noise at the target but doesn't seem to make it quieter from the shooters area or from the house next door. At least on high power. I admit low power seemed quiter than medium power on the old Bobcat.

It ended up costing me a little over 2900 bucks just to try the Hugget because AoA took so damn long to get the MK2 and ship it to me. When I called to order they told me about 2 weeks. It took 6 weeks. I ended up having to buy an Edgun Matador R3M to hold me over and that meant new scope and atlas bipod etc.

To be honest, I don't regret it. But i'm a little bitter about the 2 power level bit.

I was under the impression the mk2 had a 3 power adjustment. Looked like it from some of the videos I have seen. Think specifically Teds videos.

I too was ordering the .25 with the huggett. Was hoping to install it myself. If in fact they decide to install it themselves. I hope they include all my stock parts. First thing I do is complete tear down of all my guns. If there's glue, won't be there for long. We pay way to much money for them to be glueing things to our pcp's.

Planed on doing before and after videos of the sound difference.

Might have to get in touch with someone overseas to buy and send me one. Just do a magna and an adapter. Or get one from Neil.

Do you have some pics of where they glued the ldr on?
