Tuning FX Barrel liner-to glue or not to glue

I just glued my carbon sleeve from 910 Airguns. My sleeve slid on without much resistance. I don’t think it would have done much without glueing it.

We all know these FX liner tolerances are all over the place.😁. I think it would need to be a pretty tight fit to not need glue/epoxy of some sort. It also my depend on weather or not it’s being tensioned. I wonder how much it effects the harmonics glue vs no glue.

Wondering if the dissimilar expansion of carbon fiber and steel liner due to heat would cause some slight POI change if glued? Not talking about room temperatures, but baking in the sun 120F... I calculated about 0.2mm expansion in length from 70F to 120F for a 24 in steel liner.

"Carbon fiber (composite of carbon fiber and epoxy resin) is a material with heat expansion x 6 times less than aluminium and more than 3 times less that steel."

Could you explain what is meant by tensioning?

Could you explain what is meant by tensioning?

It's the opposite of compression. (Not being a smartass )

Pulling the ends of the barrel apart... tension.

Threaded into the receiver, the muzzle and pulled into tension.

I put in my liner from Ernest it fits the outer tube real snug and has a ton of room around the liner which it would be hard to glue it to the liner and get it straight I think it is made to keep you from compressing the liner with the front screw that locks liner in place left mine unglued and also tensioned the system with a space against the frame and shroud and hand tightened it pretty dang tight for my 22 made the spacer so it will fit and tension my 25 cal barrel kit as well waiting on my carbon fiber sleeve from 910 for the 25 cal yet

Q To all people who bonded a CF tube to a liner:

1. Can you confirm that , when you rotate the liner in same way as you would index,

3 a clock 6 and 9 and 12 a clock

Shooting at let say 50 meters or yards (because not many people have access to 100)

shooting let say 10 pellets each index position,

And now you got four groups of ten holes...

What is a radius of a circle you can draw in? 2 MOA or 4 or maybe 10 MO? Or eventually you will have to move the horizontal vindage on the scope turret out of optical centerline?

So, no feedback with proven numbers on this question I will call it as a marketing blablabla. If you could not make the indexing tighter then 4MOA you still got your liner - prettier, but nothing more ;)

I am with original FX orings on the STX-A liner, only doubled the number to 6, and shooting .25 pellets @ 100 with flyers including total footprint on POI fits into 2 MOA.

I didn't need to index my barrel; and not sure how many members went out yesterday or today to perform your request. There was know need to index my barrels and not everyone will. I'm sure given some time others may give you their results but if my rifle shoots the way I want it there isn't a reason to try and index it. When I put the sleeves on I did place a mark on the liner so I knew where to place it when I reinstalled the liner.

My Impact MK2, Maverick and Dream-Tac have the sleeves and they all shoot extremely well at 50 yards and in. I stopped doing 100 yard groups because I won't be hunting at that distance. My M3 is in .35 but they don't have a sleeve for that yet.

You see, we people doing any kind of funy things, because...its fun.

My (biological) brother back in EU, not so far years ago, he bought an Audi in Stainless Steel finish, not painted SS but a real brushed SS. You cannot imagine what I told him, but in very carefull tone because our mom was in next room...

Last week he (my brother) was so pissed because of he's collegue at work got a new BMW... with a manual crank for windows. With a real mahagony wooden knob. And yes, you can "get" those in EU for some "extra pocket change"...

So yes, all we doing things, just for a fun of it ;)
