FX Airguns announces the new FX Hybrid Slug

Interesting that we do not need slug liner for those slugs. I think we need a slug liner barrel for NSA or Nielsen.

I am wrong or right ?

It depends if you are asking about a FX barrel or pellet barrels more generally. I’ve found that both NSA and Rat Snipers shoot well out of rifled barrels that shoot JSB pellets well. So a .25 Marauder, Condor, ect. all shoot the swaged bullets well with their factory barrels. All bets may be off with FX’s smooth twist barrel.

@GQ,

Based on this earlier post:

I spoke to Jon at FX-USA prior to the Hybrid-Slug debut. He told me

...

  • We have found these Hybrids do shoot well out of other manufacturers rifles as well. Results may vary and none are as good as out of the FX barrels.

It sounds like they should “shoot well” out of your Impact, just perhaps not as good as a STX barrel.

I will test. Remember this is not a hard slug. It is a smooth pellet-slug hybrid.

Yes but still is a slug none the less needing to be spin stabilized rather than drag stabilized like pellets. That's the issue with the original ST barrels.

It is true that this hybrid slug needs the correct twist to be spin stabilized but since it is not solid it should be able to conform more easily to the bore dimensions. Therefore I would think this hybrid slug would be more forgiving than the solid slugs. Bill

What does not make sense to me is why they went lighter on the .35 cal. The JSB pellets are a hair over 81gr where these are 68.2gr.

I agree with GQ on this. While dropping the weight allows you to throw it faster, I read that mid 900s was the optimal speed.

If you are running a rig that has been modified you should be able to throw the JSB at that speed which in the end will have 25 more fpe.

I think I am going to stay with casting my own JSB clones. WAAAYYY cheaper to have for a 150fpe gun.

Probably the whole point of going light is not to have "the need" to modify your gun in order to achieve the optimal speed for slugs, heavier slugs require modifications on most airguns (.35 heavy slug should be probably around 100gn or more)

Agree. It will be interesting to see how the Impact 35 does with the JSBs though. FX has seemed to lean toward liking the JSBs and if it can through the JSB 81gr pellet at near that speed with accuracy, that will be awesome.

Myself, I would rather drop a couple of hundred dollars modifying my AG so I can shoot it at a much better price/rnd.
