Tuning FX 700 mm shroud on a 600 mm barrel?

I have a Wildcat MKII with a power plenum and a 700 mm STX liner. By the time I put my 5" FX moderator on it, the barrel is pretty long. Ok for shooting off a bench, but for walking around hunting, its feels too long. I'm considering putting a 600 STX liner on and putting the 700 shroud on (which seems more hunting friendly).

Am I going to get any funky turbulence between the end of the barrel and the 10 cm space to the end of the shroud? My goal is not to put on the FX moderator if I run it this way.

Otherwise, I am thinking of running the 600 liner without the shroud and finding a moderator the same diameter as the factory shroud. Not sure if a KOI would fit?

Any advise? Thanks

Would a carbon fiber tube and another shroud end cap work ?

trlrman, I tried this similar idea on my Dreamline .25 600mm.

I was adding a carbon fiber shroud that came longer than I had and decided to add an additional end piece air stripper to the existing one to give me closer to a 50mm increase in shroud. Concept and execution were there, results were disappointing. Air turbulence was disrupted and pellets actually clipped the front of the end cap. Accuracy was compromised as well. We disassembled the stacked air strippers, cut the carbon fiber back to factory length and all was hunky-dory. Others might have a more scientific approach and have better results, stock measurements worked best for me in the end and kept it a pellet on pellet. Take it for what it's worth. Have fun

Just get a huma mod 30. You can remove chambers and make it super short or semi-short or whatever you like. I have 4 huma moderators I think.

On my FX Crown, you can use a 700mm shroud on any length of liner you like. The barrel system is "super-light STX". Not like the older barrel system with the liner sleeve and all that

Superlight below. The liner just floats on spacers, so it is centered inside the shroud. This liner has carbon tube epoxied to it. Also, the Nova Star to the bottom right has the same huma mod 30 on it, just more chambers.

It stiffens the liner and makes it less sensative to whatever tune may or may not be on the gun. What this means is that this barrel shoots tighter groups and has more consistent point of impact across its entire power range, and with all projectiles I've tested. Some projectiles like wadcutters and crow magnums will still not group well due to their poor aerodynamic profile. No helping that, aside from shooting them very slow
