@JoeWayneRhea; I received my full maintenance set yesterday, but it seems to stop at 495 feet per second with wadcutters and JSB 8.5 grains. Since you're the FWB guru here, any tips or suggestions? ;-)

Jonnes I'd holler at JM at Air Rifle Headquarters and see about one of his Macarri springs . they replace the double spring set up and are generally the fastest set up . Or if you prefer the double spring set up ( I do ) then honestly the best sets I've owned are from Neil Stepp at ISS in ft worth . Both guys have spotless reputations for a reason . Last ime I bought just spring set I think ARH was about 38$ with shipping , and Neils with the spring button and springs was about 60$ best as I can remember .. That's pretty close within a couple dollars .

Jonnes didn't even think to ask ...Did you lube the piston when you put it back together ? I have found ( the hard way ) most problems with the FWB guns are from using too much lube on the piston . they are made to run internally with literally a spot of lube the size of this " 0 " on a piece of paper . I lube piston chamber with just a TINY amount of lube and make sure it coats it well them I wipe it almost dry with a paper towel .. That's how much it was designed to use

I have some experience with these...Joe is correct about the moly lube..only the slightest film on piston and chamber...I include the spring itself and the spring guides...the slightest film only....Also a new piston ring can cause low velocity till it wears in...if the old one is not broken you may find it works best and for a very very long time....a new breech seal may need the factory shim behind it to seal properly...you should feel some resistance just as the action closes making a tight seal...very loose on closing could indicate a poor seal. Also if the piston bumper did not seat completely (because of old bumper debri) or a tight fit it needs to be seated completely or velocity will be low...otherwise your new parts should have brought you up to at least 580fps..

Everything 10X said is DEAD ON !!!! I don't know why but the rifles ive rebuilt almost always have a light twang ...It can be quietened up some but the best way is to grease main spring heavily , and then it causes big jumps in velocity. On my personal gun my first piston buffer wouldn't stay properly seated and would be canted slightly and when it happened you could see it in groups fast as there became more vertical stringing .

Thanks guys, I used a little bit of lube on the piston, but when I took it apart and cleaned it off (just to leave a slight film), it shot much faster. It's now at 540. The piston seal is seated snugly so the rest might just come over time. +1 for the both of you!

Ok Joe I'm still not ready to do the "test all my pellet guns at 35 yards to answer some new shooters questions". But I was testing my set up for that this morning. And here is one I told you I would do for you to see how that ol' junk pile you sold me shoots.
ok I started at 35 yards and there was a little more wind than I wanted.(always start with an excuse). I shot 13 times the two on the left and the lowest shot were 3 shots to line up the scope.
And I told you Joe I would shoot it at 50 yards here that is. Ok the trick to this target is I shot 3 times and put the target where the pellets were hitting. The point of aim was the upper target and you can see the wind was starting to get me.(I so love a shooting excuse)
this was 10 shots.
Ok so that was not terrible so heck I went for one last distance 60 yards 9 shots . (The wind was picking cats up out of the trees by this time) Or that's the way JWR would have ended the story.
And guys don't forget this is a 40 year old 10 meter rifle. By the way that has no twang. Whatever that is

Great shooting Robert !! Wait till you catch one of those good still days . Every once in a while when I can catch a really good still day and my one eyed ass is shooting straight it amazes me how these little slow pokes of a rifle can send pellets thru the same hole over and over !!

Joe my 300 has been shooting so good I just had to take it apart. (I left the trigger group alone) Simple enough to rebuild some day in the future. I just wanted to see what goes on inside the FWB 300. Anyway as you start taking down those two lets talk one day on the phone? Who knows if you have one I guess you need two?

Yeah Robert no problem ! Man when you take em apart its cool how all the pieces fit together . The thing I've screwed up TWICE now is the piston oring . It is very brittle and if you bend it much it beaks like glass . Luckily Neil Stepp at ISS stocks them .
