FWB FWB 300 facelift posts ..Pics

Oh man, just love those FWB 300S rifles. If you don't own one yet, try and get your hands on one! I recently got my hands on a 1977 (almost 40 year old) FWB300S. Looked like it's been through WW2, but I'm currently restoring it to it's former glory. Used tung oil for the stock, added a little bit of fresh cherry sap to add some color to it, but the end result is beautiful IMHO! Ordered a new maintenance set (seals, springs, etc.) because it shot 70 m/s through the chrony and had some serious twang. Broken spring. :( . But once these are installed, i'm one happy 300S owner!

Joe, do you have the original springs installed, or did you get a high-power one? Those groups at 50Y are impressive for a 7,5 joule airgun.

GREAT job on the stock man !!! I go back and forth on the springs . The double is usually the most accurate set up . But I got a High power spring in a few weeks ago that is doing really good for me . I let my double spring set up go on a gun I just rebuilt . But still have another in my tool box .
When I get the spring in I grind it flat as possible and wire brush it so it won't get bound up . Seems to help . Only real draw back for me on the high power spring is cocking effort and seals don't last as long . I had a rifle in a few weeks ago that shot a lot better with the high power spring so I think it may be just what each gun prefers .

Thanks man, it came out even better than I had hoped for. Good tip on the springs, I usually polish the crap out of parts before I install them. Hate machine marks, slight case of OCD. ;) I'll just leave mine as original as possible. The only thing I might do is powder coat the action, cocking lever and barrel. Solves the potential rust problems. I think a nice satin finish would look great I think. Not sure yet though.

Whow, that came out nice! About the OCD, people always wonder why my rifles and pistols shoot as smooth as they do. I have a CZ455 for instance, with a original trigger and sear that have been polished and fine-tuned to the bone, without the bolt falling out. Other CZ owners get blown away, because the trigger pull's at just 500 grams (breaks like glass), while the unmodified triggers are set between 2.5 and 3.5 kilograms. OCD isn't a bad thing at all. ;)

Well, can't wait for the new seals and springs to arrive, so I can finally shoot this beauty. :D

Its on the other side of the world from me !! But they get parts out pretty quick . Best I remember last order took about a week to reach me in Texas . Next time I order I'm getting one of the tuner piston rings . Do yourself a favor and pick up that trigger piece that's like 7bucks .
Eventually you will break it . Any gun I rebuild I always put new pins in front of sledge system . The tend to get just a tiny bit pitted over time . I got another gun coming in today that has a BadAss piece of wood on it . I'll post pics here when its finished

Texas >< Germany is a bit worse than The Netherlands >< Germany. ;)

This one you mean?

I'm going to inspect it more in detail when the springs and seals arrive, takes 2 days for parts to arrive from Germany for me, so I can always order more parts. Shipping is not that expensive. Thanks for the tip. Looking forward to seeing pics of the BA wood. ;) :D If you ever want to try something else, look for a Diana 75, also very nice match rifles. Bit like the FWB300S.

Just to give some feedback....I've been inside at least 7 FWB 150/300s...replacing bumpers, rings and breech seals and of course various springs and spacer combinations....my goal has been more speed with JSB 7.33gr pellets (cuz in all FWB guns tested this is the accuracy/speed pellet...heavier JSBs are equal but without the speed).
The Gotha piston ring made no difference in any gun tested....
The Gotha export power spring did increase velocity over the factory double springs...but
The Maccari springs were far superior in speed increases.
All springs tried gave an initial big boost for about 150 shots before velocity slowly backed down and settled in about 25 fps slower.
So a gun bumped up to 695 fps eventually settled down to a 670fps gun...a power spacer picked up an additional 10 fps.
Gotha is a great source of parts...but Maccari's springs work best for me...and his $25 300S spring while giving a good 50fps boost, is not my first choice to get a high speed boost.
Really nice work on the stocks displayed in this whole thread....I let others collect em...I'm modifying and shooting the ones I get..

Thanks for sharing your experience, that's real useful info 10x. Collecting, tuning and shooting is the best of all worlds, right? ;)

But honestly, 50fps, that's a little over 15 meters per second. Is that really worth any money or effort? These rifles where made for shooting extremely accurate at 10 meters, sure you can do 20 or even 25 with real good accuracy. But if you want to send lead over 50 meters, get a rifle that's built for that job. For long distance shooting with airguns, I have an FX Independence in .22 (shoots hole-in-hole at 50 meters, won numerous competitions with it) and a Diana 340N-Tec in .177. This is my "collection" by the way; https://nl.pinterest.com/leonvanschie/my-guns-and-gun-range-gear/
I see people trying to get over 250m/s out of their 300's, gives me the creeps. It somehow feels like sacrilege to overtune the almighty FWB300S. ;)

Jones I can verify with the FWBs what seems like a minor speed increase is HUGE when your in the wind !
Thanks 10X for saving me the hassle of replacing the o ring for nothing . I bought a double spring set from ISS NeilStepp and they by far are the strongest double springs I've seen . I'm 6,1 and weigh in pretty damn close to 280 lbs and the last Macarri spring was so strong I Barely found put it in by myself .
I'm with you guys on not treating my guns like a museum piece . I resold one unaltered ( outside ) gun and I could tell the buyer was slightly disappointed with it when it arrived ....The ones I've pimped out and sold ALL those guys love them ! And shoot them regular .
I got a little of that old school Roy Weatherby gene in me ...You youngsters won't get that one :)

It is worth the money and effort...I have 2 PCPs in .22 cal. I'll say they are definitely better wind buckin guns...hit harder at long range too...

But...a self contained side cocker delivering 3/8 in groups in no wind at 45/50 yds most pellets inside a 1/4 in....it's just a fun cheap shooting experience...grasshoppers at 40 yds, flies on the target at 25 yds...9mm casing at 45 yds with boring regularity...

A hot rodded 300s is just my go-to fun shooting gun... No tanks, pumps or extreme power just accuracy and shooting pleasure.
