Felt good to get a 45 year old classic back to it former glory, no telling how long she languished in such poor health. Who ever said on this forum these guns are easy to work on was right, the hardest part was sizing the new seal. I've never sized a seal before and was afraid to ruin it, but it seems ok after checking it on the chronograph.
The first three shots over the chrono were, CP's 7.4gr 800.5fps-800.6fps-800.3fps pretty impressed by that spread, but that would change with the JSB 8.44gr's 779.3fps 768.8fps 764.4fps H&N FTT's 8.64gr were even slower, 740's fps, they were very tight going into the barrel.
A pic of what was left of the old seal and spring next to the new Macarri slightly softer kit, note some mushrooming on the piston, don't know if that's how the pistons are or if it happened from being shot with little to no seal left, I just left it that way, except what for what came off with usual light polishing I did to the piston and it wasn't sticking out past the new seal.
Here she is with some new glass a Hawke Varmint 2.5x10x44 and a Sportsmatch mount made for FWB124 and Patriot air rifles.
and one more look at a timeless classic
But how does it shoot...Three in a row on a target drawn by my grandson shot at 25yds, scopes not dialed in all the way yet. They weren't all like this, we had high winds here in AZ and I had a 5 year old to think about, so we'll call this cherry picked. Shows great potential and I'm glad such a venerable rifle is back to where it should be, and thanks for taking a look.
