FWB 124 - Finally!

Back in the early 90's when I began to shoot air rifles I bought a Air arms TX 200 MK 1 and I used that gun for every type of competition we shot. I owned other guns but none of them could compare to how accurate the TX was. The only other gun that I was interested in was the FWB 124 but convinced myself that a break barrel just can't be as accurate as a fixed barrel. In 2000' my son was born and I took a 15 years break from shooting. When I got back to shooting 4 years ago I decided I had to get a 124. Now they have become collector's guns and though it seems they are out there, the condition is the big question now. I've almost bought a couple in the last 2 years only to chicken out right before taking a chance that I end up with someone else's Frankenstein. I happened to mention that I was looking for a nice 124 to a couple guys in our club and turned out one of the guys wants to reduce his collection and yes, he has 2 FWB 124's he would sell. Both guns are barely shot, and have been recently serviced. The one I bought has been tuned and has full Maccari internals @ 12 ftlbs. and a Maccari walnut stock plus the original stock. The first 3 shots I took from the gun knocked 3 rams off the rack @ 45 yards....sold!

Right now I have the older ( w/ Japanese glass ) Bushnell 6-18 Trophy on it but that might change. I will be using this gun for NRA silhouette for now. Like to say "thanks Jim " one more time for selling me a perfect version of one of my dream guns.

I seem to remember the gun was supposed to be shooting 800 plus fps at the time I purchased it. That would still be close to 12 fpe. My rifle probably hasn't got more than a couple tins of pellets thru it from new. The only reason I'm getting the kit is because I've read the seals self destruct after 15 to 20 years. I really want to try FT with it before I invest in a new air rifle.

From the factory, these were generally 11 to 12 fpe guns at best. The full power kit will generally achieve about 12 fpe in my experience - between 800-825 fps with a 8.4gr pellet. The "slightly softer" kit is good for more like 750 fps, dropping you down to the 10 fpe range. But these are all lovely ladies at either end of the typical power range, and it's really quite amazing how much power they make considering it's only slightly harder to cock than an HW30!

Thanks everyone. I came into my shop early this morning just to shoot the gun alittle and start getting a good zero. Some airguns don't shoot well from a rest and I've been told that this is one of those guns. Back in the 90's we used to zero all our spring guns offhand since that is how we shot. Takes alot of time and alot of shots to feel good about an offhand zero. I also decided to try different pellets as the previous owner said Air Arms 8.4 shot best but I prefer H&N pellets. H&N field target trophies in 4.51mm fit the barrel really nice.

After shooting for half hour or so I feel I have a good zero @ 25 yards.

I shot some steel targets that measure 1.125" @ 25 yards offhand

After taking two shots at each ( actually lost one ) I took 3 shots at a pellet mark on an old steel cabinet at roughly 20 yards...

I am not the best offhand shooter for sure but I think I can count on my scores in silhouette going up slightly with this gun. I am very happy with the gun itself. One thing that is different than my other guns is the trigger. It's a single stage ( I mean not a hint of a first stage) and you had better be ready when you put your finger on the trigger. Did I say I love this gun?
