Full auto BB options

I want to purchase a full-auto BB gun just for kicks. I'm pretty much down to the DPMS SBR vs the Umarex MP40. Only real difference I can tell is one is a good bit more capacity in the mag but with that really long mag some some awkward holding. Any opinions on either or is there a better option? I'd really like to be able to run frangible BBs so I can shoot at my metal targets.

I have all of the full auto BB guns both pistols and submachine gun types. I even have a Russian made submachine gun. I bought he MP40 because it was all metal. I do not like plastic guns. The MP40 is extremely realistic. The only problem I had with it was a feeding problem in the magazine but solved that by smoothing the BB path with some emery paper. I found it fed very well when I coated zinc plated premium BB's from PA with graphite powder. I have not tried the frangible BB's in it but to my recollection they are not very round and uniform. Have you considered the full automatic Mauser Broom Handle pistol?

As your stated use is just for kicks maybe go used?

One that always caught my eye - no longer sold in the US is the Drozd Blackbird..

Every once in a while, they'll pop up on eBay - One of these days, one will be mine.. haha

There's a member here that had one up for grabs, and posted in the classifieds: =)

I have a Drozd Blackbird I will post on classifieds someday, if you are interested message me. It’s used but in great condition. These guns are tons of fun.

Man, I could go for either one of those if they could be converted to HPA as easily as my semi auto Sig Sauer MPX. I won the Sig in a drawing Christmas eve from Airgun Depot via Rick Rehm Shooter1721.

I liked it so well I ordered the HPA conversion kit from AGD. Just waiting for warm weather so I can shoot the last bit of CO2 out and put the HPA bottle on. Hate to waste the last bit of CO2 without shooting it down. Will post results when I get it converted.

I wish they made one of these Sig's that shot BB's full auto that I could do the HPA conversion on. Maybe call it the Sig Sauer MBBX ! LOL

Very cool!
Right now [winter in NY] I'm limited to shooting indoors, so no fully-auto toys for me just yet..
It's bad enough trying to find and clean up all of the pellets in the room where my targets are..
I couldn't imagine having to clean up after emptying the hopper on a fully auto. hahaha
Thanks for the heads up! If/when the time comes, I'll have to pester you.
Glad to hear that you've been enjoying it! They really do look like they'd be a blast to shoot!

Sam -

Thanks for all the responses! To sum it up, I'm not wedded to a rifle or pistol but I'd like the following in no particular order:

  • High capacity so that a burst lasts longer than a second
  • Decent accuracy so I can hit targets reasonably well at 10 yards and under
  • Reliability
  • Ideally would shoot frangibles as I have a bunch of metal targets that spin, collapse, tree, etc. and I'd like to be able to assault them in full auto for grins
  • decent "simulation"
  • relatively easy to load the mag quickly when the mag holds the CO2

I have quite a number of powder burners in all shapes and sizes so I don't need to replicate that. I just want to have a bit of fun.

That thing is wicked. I found a company selling these new online with the full auto mod and the barrel shroud. $600 is the going rate new. If you google search it you can find it. Their return policy is a bit strict but they at least state they will repair.

Their return policy is a bit strict but they at least state they will repair. That said, moving into the "high end" should include the Air Ordnance SMG .22 Pellet Belt Fed system. I wouldn't call a system that involves spending $600 for the firearm plus hundreds more for a tank and accessories to load/shoot/power it as "fun" any more. With a coupon code, the first two I mentioned (Crosman SBR and the MP40) are under $200 with a coupon code as are most others mentioned in this thread.

Would be nice if they made a high quality PCP model. Maybe they do, don't recall seeing it. The add on HPA thing is ok, but looks like you need a tank & tether it. Not real handy IMO. Those air operated carnival machine bb guns worked flawlessly as I recall. I use to love those. I would like to have one of those converted to PCP. So is the MP40 the most reliable?

I went ahead and ordered an MP40 using the 10% off coupon for air gun depot. I got some hornady black BBs and some dust devils. I've read they ARE magnetic so theoretically they should feed. I use a teflon dry lubricant for my reloading equipment... I'll be checking for burrs or rough edges on the magazine and sand/buff them out and then wet it down good with the teflon lube, let it dry completely, then I'll give the dust devils a go. The magazine in the MP40 appears to be the biggest of the lot other than the steel storm which I don't like the looks of at all and, of course, the $600+ option. I decided the 179 route wasn't as risky. We'll see.

Heck no, I use to spend that much a week on Crown & all I have to show for it is a room full of purple bags & a bad liver. LOL. Keep us posted on reliability, I am kind of curious.

The MP40 came today. I tried the dust devil BBs first on semi auto and they are pretty much a no go unless you only put 8-10 in the mag. They choke up the neck as they aren't smooth and since the mag double stacks, they bind up. The gun was confused that it had bbs when it didn't so it kept firing CO2 air shots with no bbs coming out. I cleaned out what was left and loaded hornady blacks and burned about 1.5 mags before I ran out of gas. I opened it up to discover that I had only punched through one CO2 cartridge but the other was really really close but not quite punctured. On the second attempt, I continued tightening the co2 plug screw until I felt it bottom out and then just snugged it and that did the trick. I ran 3 full mags on full auto and tore the center out of a target at 7 yards (that's all I've got indoors) into a metal trap.
