Fortitude Gen 2 coming....soon?

I guess we’ll find out more next week but I saw this post on another forum today.

All,

Velocity Outdoor is pleased to announce that the Fortitude Gen 2 will be launched at SHOT Show next week. We have isolated the cause of many of the concerns cited on this site and have taken the necessary steps to address all of the shortcomings experienced with the initial launch. What has changed? Steps were taken in the design to minimize any leakage. Additionally, we reduced the cocking effort, improved the trigger pull and enhanced the shot strings.

I am really excited about getting the Fortitude Gen 2 into the hands of customers and reviewers so all can experience the enhancements first hand.

Thanks,

John…Crosman / Benjamin Engineer

"Minimize" leakage ?

I would feel better if he had said "STOPPED LEAKAGE".

And why is trigger pull such a difficult thing for airgun makers to get right? Every airgun made requires trigger work immediatly after purchase. It's as if they all think...."Hey let's give this thing a horrible trigger pull so that if it EVER accidentally discharges we can blame it on the consumer for having it modified".

Freakin' Pussies ! Developing a trigger pull that is both NICE and SAFE isn't really that hard. Just do it !

Right On Man!! LMAO!

Lol, you tell em brother! I can't give any slack to Benjamin/Crossman on this one... I mean I did personally trick one of their rifles out and its my baby, but in the big picture they are way behind in times compared to competitively priced competition like Diana/SPA, Kral, Nova-Vista, and a few other off shore based manufacturers that are starting to add a lot of bells and whistle for 300-400$ priced rifles...can't wait to see whats to come @ shot show though.

Well since the door has been opened to air our grievances over the use of certain language, being something of a fan of pussy, I am offended by the derogatory use of the word. Apparently my ancestors were rather fond of it as well, judging solely by my existence.

You will get no negative feedback from me, however. Perhaps it can also be credited to my casual demeanor. The benefits are many and varied.

I have to disagree.

The triggers on the Air Arms S410 and S510 I had were perfect out of the box.

Same with the FX Wildcat I had, and Streamline and Crown that I currently have.

Now the Benjamin Maximus I have, that's a different story.

How about every Crosman airgun requires trigger work, or replacement parts.

Years back there was the 3 screw mod for the Disco, I got a conversion from Mike MRod it was set to break in mere ounces, also you can use the gen1 Marauder trigger with a shim to make up the difference between the 7/8" and 1 1/4" tube. The entry level guns are getting very competitive. Hajimoto, and Southern Gunner have both demonstated great tuning and mod tricks.

Just a few observations...

When the FX Impact first came to the market there were all kinds of issues with reliability and build quality. Lloyd at Blackpool Air Rifles ("Hot Air" on YT) was on the cusp of cutting ties with FX (through his UK importer) over the Impact issues his customers had in abundance and only held off when FX began to address the many issues with the gun after the first 9-12 months.

The launch of the Umarex Gauntlet (I swear, I was sitting here and all I could think of was "Umarex Hajimoto"! ) was accompanied by lots of issues beyond simply modding the gun for better performance. Even as that gun was hailed as a ground breaker and game changer - it even inspired Tom Gaylord to coin the "PP-PCP" or "Price Point PCP" category - the manufacturer has been tweaking the build to improve the QC issues and performance.

As for Crosman/Benjamin, there have been lots of misses with their gun launches, most notably involving the triggers with their "Lawyer springs". The Clean Break Trigger on their NP2 line addressed some of those issues but still needed tuning work to become marginally serviceable. OTOH, the Marauder came out with what was, and continues to be, a benchmark 2-stage trigger for sub-$1K guns. Good from the factory, very good with a little tweaking per the Manual, and truly terrific with experience and experiment.

It's been said that we stand on the shoulders of the giants who came before us, meaning current research and manufacturing benefit in untold ways from experiments and products that have come before. Crosman has much to be proud of, and in no small part deserves to be recognized as one of the wet-nurses for the growing popularity of Air Gunning here in the U.S. Shall we keep pressing them to improve their offerings to eager U.S. buyers who don't want to (or can't afford to) patronize long-time European manufacturers? You bet! The Air Gunning community put the new Fortitude to the test, found it wanting in a number of areas, spoke loudly and clearly to Crosman about those issues, and now Crosman is responding with progressive improvements (so we are told) to the platform.

If, as I expect, the Fortitude Gen2 truly does prove to be a marked improvement over the Gen1 then perhaps the gun will turn out to have been named aptly: courage in pain or adversity.

Quality control hasn’t been one of Crosman’s strong points, they seem to rely heavily on their Customer Service Dept to keep customers happy. Over the last few years, improvements have been slow (e.g. barrel issues like damaged rifling from a crowning pilot) to nonexistent (e.g. pellets) and we’ve seen no representation from them on the forums since Chip left, what, 2-1/2 years ago? But there’s a glimmer of hope that they are listening and taking steps to improve the Fortitude.

The Fortitude is a response to the Gauntlet, no question about it. Certainly in terms of price point and features (regulated and magazine fed). Granted its size and weight gives it a different appeal for someone who values portability over shot count. But the fact the Gauntlet hit the market well in advance of the Fortitude, I have to think the internal pressure to get it finished was intense and it showed in the glaring design and quality issues that it has, but I’m encouraged to hear they are making improvements. Pretty quickly, too.

Honestly I was pretty jazzed about it over a year ago when it was announced, and I strongly considered putting in a preorder but I decided to wait it out and let someone else be the guinea pig. Boy am I glad I did but I’m going to watch closely at how the new one fares and will reconsider picking one up.

Regarding the trigger, the Marauder trigger group is a considerably better drop sear design so it’s no surprise they didn’t include it at the Fortitude’s price point. The direct sear of the Discovery / Maximus / Fortitude / 22xx is disappointing though when you look at it side by side with the QB trigger group in the Gauntlet, especially considering it’s copied from Crosman’s model 160. Can they not find room in the $300 budget to use a trigger comparable to that of a $100 QB?

I'm not offended by the word at all.

But if you got a red ball from using it, why in the world would you do it again, especially in the same thread?

Because I'm not here to shoot the bull with 10 year olds, I'm here to shoot the bull with YOU GUYS whom I feel I can safely assume are mature and can appreciate a good chuckle from time to time. Or at the very least be capable of reading posts sprinkled with "lingo" without getting offended to the point that you feel the need to REPORT THE POST negatively.

Bottom line: If there are a good number of THAT TYPE people here, or this place is full of juvenile children.....then I don't belong here. And most of the rest of you don't either.

😊. So there!
