I have been playing with my new marauder .25. I pulled my barrel shroud off and the baffles had flecks of lead on them. That welcomed me into the topic of washing pellets. I washed a tin and sure enough, plenty of flecks. I have an assortment of spray lubes in the garage to choose from but I have a spray can of food grade silicon in the kitchen. I use it it to prevent rust as well as a lube for anything that moves that contacts my food. Great for pressure cooker gaskets that don't want to deal. I'm curious to what you fellas think of using it as a pellet lube.

If your shroud equipped rifle is leaving flecks in the baffles could that be a sign of misalignment between barrel and shroud?
I have used pure Dow Corning silicone oil from when we used vacuum pumps in the lab. It works well in my Talon SS using CO2 at 12 FT lb. I have never used it in any other rifle.

It should be okay, but do read the label on the can (or download an MSDS) and check if there are any hydrocarbons or "petroleum distillates" listed as being used as solvents or propellants. If there are, then you may think about letting the freshly washed and silicone-sprayed pellets sit in the tin with the lid off to "dry" for a day or so, maybe cover it with a towel to keep dust out. I have a spray can of (I think NAPA brand?) silicone spray at home, and it has toluene in it as a solvent, so I don't use it around my air rifles. Like Tony, I also have a pint of Dow silicone oil (200 CSt, about the same viscosity as 30W motor oil) that works just fine for o-ring and pellet lube. You want to find a silicone that is listed as having a high flash point.

+1 on what Bent said. Silicon oil is the recommended oil for lubing the seals on my 4500 psi compressor w/teflon going on the rod itself.
