Fix impact velocity question

I have an FX impact that had a 600mm barrel on it (not the STX)—gen 1....was shooting 850 FPS...JSB 34 grain..I moved to a STX complete shroud and bought a slug liner moved to 700mm and I can only push 825 FPS with 34 NSA grain all .25 ...Each Chris test bottle has been topped offf. I thought I would have gained FPS instead I lost ... and thoughts where to start?

Slugs of similar weights are generally slower because there is more bearing surface causing more friction. For a 600mm liner at 130 BAR, that's actually not bad for velocity. If you want or need more velocity for better accuracy, turn your regulator up a little at a time as you test accuracy. I usually adjust mine 5 BAR at a time. As you increase your regulator settings, you will probably need to increase your hammer spring pre-load too. Good luck.

Didn't mean to repeat what was already said, I was typing at the time of the previous response! So, ditto to what Glem said!!!

Like Heavy said, there is a plethora of information on things you can do to improve velocity and accuracy with your Impact. I suggest you follow Heavy Impact and Edosan and do a search on their previous posts. The two of them have lots of posts pertaining to the Impact. There are detailed instructions on the modifications you can make to your gun for more power and accuracy. Some are simple and can be done with nothing but sand paper or a Dremel tool. Other modifications require disassembling the gun and making some major changes. Without a whole lot of work and some simple changes you should be able to easily increase your velocity by 50fps. With a little more work and a bit of money, a 100fps increase should be easily attainable too. You decide what you're willing to do and how far you want to go. There is a lot of information on AGN about tuning your gun for slugs and which ones work best for most. Good luck!

My impact was shooting 33.5gr at 830 fps with stock 600mm barrel. I enlarge the transfer brass port and probe hole. Add a derlin washer to replace the c3 bumper o ring. And added 6g hammer weight. I can shoot same 33.5gr slug at 940 to 950 fps on a 600mm slug liner. So with a 700 I'm sure you can push it maybe close to 980 to 1000. If want more power you can add external plenum and change the stock 5.5valve to 6.5mm.

They aren't kidding about the more bearing surface to overcome. I often will push a pellet down a barrel to look for tight spots. The pellets push through with just a bit of resistance. I tried this with a slug and... well I gave up after getting it less than a foot down the barrel put the barrel back on the gun and shot it out. I am surprised that the slugs even shoot out of the barrels as tight as they are.
