First video done - that was fun!

I finally got the side-shot camera adaptor broken in.... -Yehaw! I apologize in advance for the lack of ZOOM on the shots. My training for the sound and video systems has been delayed. My phone does double duty for sound and video and the zoom feature was not playing nicely while I was under time pressure. I will work on it

I stayed up after the midnight shift in order to get to the permission before the temperature climbed too high. We had a solid night of rain, and I was not sure I would have any success today. Just after the landowner grandma stopped by to check out my gun (she shoots a .22LR) and scoffed at my total score on the property of 180 YTD -"you aint scratched the surface young man, keep it up!" I finally made contact with Charlie...um, I mean the Rock Squirrels. The first two were from the prone position and at about 30 yards. I will let the video tell the story. I hit at least as many as I missed, and I edited out the ugliest of the clips. A small sample of the shenanigans....

Hi JimNM, cool video and I like "grandma!" I was wondering about the cross hair on your video that seems to be canted. I have not yet used a scope cam and was curious if the apparent misalignment on the video has something to do with the actual scope to rifle alignment. Thanks! Please forgive me if this is bonehead stuff ( I am not immune to being a bonehead.)

Okay, sounds good!

I use a Motorola Z2 Force. It's camera can record 1080p at 120fps. Even 60fps is good. Nice thing about the app is you can control everything from the screen very easily without having to swipe and such like you would with the phone's built-in camera. You can even lock the screen so you don't accidentally hit record or even worse to stop record. You can also adjust exposure and lock in it, focus and lock it in, zoom, file size, bandwidth, etc. It's all there in the app. And it also will let you force it to stay open over all other apps.

Another thing I like about it is when I turn Priority "ON" on my phone, I get zero interruptions while pesting. :)

And it's free with zero ads! :)

PS......each phone is probably different, but I like to use 3x (2.98 or 3.05) zoom on the App which chops the top and bottom of the scope view off but still does a decent job of filling the screen and also giving the person watching the video the effect that they're looking through a scope. ;-)

No problem Jim............I hope it works as well for you as it does for me. What's a sound generator?

Oh, as if you weren't going to do it anyway, but make sure to go through the video settings in the app and set the resolution, frame rate and bit rate to your liking! :)

Another nice feature of the app is that it will also show incline angle on the screen if you need to factor that into your shots. :)

I have an app that produces different squirrel calls. The angry grey squirrel call really gets these guys to poke out of their hole and look around, or to vacate the hole they are in. I guess it sounds like a butt whipping is about to happen and squirrels wanna see it or... not be the one getting tuned up for being in the wrong house.

The vast majority of the hits I have made are due to the stimulus of the Squirrel call. Otherwise I would have to catch one napping to get a still shot on them.

What are the settings you use? I have not play with my phone camera much at all. Do you have a secret sauce that makes good video feed?

I set the resolution to 1080p, frame rate to 120fps (for the best slow motion) otherwise 60 fps is plenty, and bit rate to 20mbps. 30 doesn't seem to make the video better but 10 might be enough.

I just keep the focus on Infinity and it seems to do well. I used to lock focus on the reticle, but when I would change magnification lets say (and usually parallax with it), the reticle would go out of focus. With it set on Infinity, I can change magnification all I want it seems and the reticle stays in focus.

That's just about it. :)

Hmmm, I feel a little silly. I think I have struck on why my videos are soooo small. (SPOILER ALERT)... The name of the adaptor is the SIDE SHOT - and I put it straight up on top of my scope, rather than off on the side. Well, the phone shoots video differently when the phone is held portrait vs. landscape.

Video #4 will be at a new level. {walks away shaking his head, "side-shot - the damned thing is called a SIDE SHOT for Pete's sake...."}

The side shot adaptor interferes with a scope ring on my set-up. The camera is a few degrees out, but I am plumb in the glass.

No worries about the question. It is absolutely a valid question and I thank you for the reality check. I will do stuff wrong several times before I get it right.

Cheers to ya!

I had the same issue. I turned the Side-Shot scope clamp around the other way and I leveled out the cross hair.Just the clamp is reversed. The phone still sits in the cradle on the left side of the scope.

Love my Side-Shot!
