First time receiving money with PayPal?

Hi everyone: I have a buyer for my Impact Compact and we are planning on using PayPal for the money transfer, but I have only used PayPal to buy things, never sell anything or receive money.

I am reluctant to send the rifle unless the money is received considering I am sending it from the Netherlands to USA. Can’t you do a simple request send money on PayPal?

Just need some advice.

If you haven’t used it much prior when he sends you the money it will show up in your PayPal but “will take 20-30 days” before you can access it”. I just went thru this it’s BS but that’s how they do it. Unless he/she sends it friends/family it never used to be this way but it is now, I had to refund a payment to a guy and he had to resend using friends/family then it’s avail immediately

The ethics of using friends/family for a purchase are a different discussion. What is significant in using friends/family is that the seller receives the money but the buyer is left without recourse. I know because I trusted the seller of a high end 10M air pistol on a different forum and was left in the wind. I know, shame on me. So the OP will get his money that way but the seller, like Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire, must depend on the kindness of strangers.

As we've found out in the past few months airguns are not covered by PPs policies so there is little point in using Goods at this point.

I can't recall 100% as it's been about 15 years since I setup my PP account, but I think they want you to link a savings account in order to receive payments.

Its actually 3-5 days and there's nothing you can do about it thats paypal's policy. What you can do is ask for the buyer to send using family and friends option that way it will go through but will be on hold for the 3-5 days. How do you plan to get it through customs?

Hey Peter, how are you? All is well I hope!

You’re a lot more likely to get burned if you’re the buyer, not the seller. Just don’t send the gun until you have the money in your bank account. With that being said, here is one other thing to consider...Pay Pal treats an “air gun” and a “gun” the same and will not cover them if it is lost, stolen or damaged. If you used friends and family, I think the funds are available immediately but that’s up to you to decide whether or not you want to go that route.

Another bad thing about Pay Pal, if the buyer claims the item is not as advertised, it goes to the resolution center, runs it course and even if you debate, they always side with the buyer. If you stand your ground and tell them it was exactly as advertised and try to fight, they will side with the buyer. Even if you have taken the money out of your Pay Pal account, they will deduct it from your account and give it back to the buyer. That opens a whole new can of worms...Will the buyer send it back in the same condition, will they send back the same gun, etc...

Pay Pal is great most of the time, 99% of the time, everything is fine so you don’t hear about some of this stuff. It’s that 1% of the time that can get ugly! I had a guy buy a camera lens from me one time. It was like new. He got it, said it was used and beat up and tried to get me to refund 25%. I told him no way. He filed a claim, Pay Pal advised me to return his money. I told them what had happened and that he was a scam artist. I said I’m not giving him anything. They said, if the claim runs it’s course they would side with the seller. I refunded his money and he returned the camera lens. When I got it, he had done the switcharoo and sent me a crappy lens. I got my money refunded but it took about 3 months.

I’d be more worried about the air gun not being covered because it’s considered a “gun” and you live overseas. I’m not sure how all of this will be covered by your bank or credit card so just be careful. Are there no other payment options over there that will work for both of you? Is he also in Europe? Never mind, I just saw that he’s in the USA. Good luck buddy, I hope it all works out as it should, I’m sure it will. It’s too bad we even have to worry about stupid stuff like this. Let us know how it all turns out.
