well this .22 Avenger came in last Friday. I saw right away when I took it out of the box that it must have a leak as it was empty. No biggie. I just filled it up and shot a few different pellets to get a feel for it. It held air long enough that I was able to get quite a few shots down range before dark. I bled it once and adjusted reg to about 1800 psi and thats where I left it. Since I was leaving town for a vacation I just put it away and figured I would get to it when I got back home.
Tonight I pulled it out of the cabinet and it was empty so I figured I might as well tear in to it and fix it. I'm not one that will send a gun back warranty or not, especially a cheaper one like this. Besides I wanted to tear it down and check it out anyway.
I found three leaks. First one was the bleed screw. I took it out and made sure everything looked good and it did . I just had to tighten it pretty snug and it finally stopped leaking.
But I still heard air leaking so I had to take the stock off to find it. The lower tube was leaking where it screws into the block and the upper tube was leaking where the adaptor screws in to the tube. So I drained it again and took those two off and replaced the orings. FYI, the oring on the receiver side is a 2.5x12 mm and the one in the tube is a 3.0x 13mm.
Taking the stock off is a bit of a puzzle at first but now its not so bad.
To do that remove the four Allen head screws on the sides of the fore end and the front screw in the pic rail under neath the fore end. It then pops apart.
The front screws are a little shorter than the rear ones so make sure they go back in the right holes. Also the barrel band has two small setscrews opposing each other that clamp it in place between the upper air tube and shroud. I dont care for this setup as it marks up both parts and if you over tighten them it will mess the shroyd and airtube up..
When reinstalling the band leave it loose until you get the sides back on so you can line up the holes for the screws. Also the bottom screw hole is not centered so make sure that hole goes closer to the front.
I also adjusted the trigger to its minimum setting and on my gun it breaks consistently at 2#. I can live with it as is. It would need longer screws to make it any better but they are using a captured type screw with a clip on it so it won't come out. I decided to leave it alone.
So, I've spent one hour shooting my gun and two hours working on it. I could have tore it down all the way but as of now there is no need to. I'm still happy with it as I expected I would do this anyway. The gun is very accurate from what little I've shot it and I it should get a bunch of shots. For $300 its still a bargain for what you get.
I'm trying to load some pics but keep getting error message. Ill keep trying.
Ok got them loaded finally.
one other thing is the sling mounts. Not sure what they were thinking would mount there. I only use Uncle Mikes quick attach a ling mounts but to use them on here I had to file just a little to get them on. Hopefully it won't break out. If it does ill come up with another way to mount it.
