FIRST REVIEW - American Tactical Nova Freedom PCP With Built-In Pump. It's Good!

Just thought you would be interested to read the HAM review of the new American Tactical Nova Freedom PCP air rifle. This is a very interesting airgun with a ton of features and it really works well.

For $380, you get a magazine-fed, sidelever PCP with a tolerable trigger, adjustable power levels, shrouded barrel, degassing capability and - most importantly - a built-in HPA pump. Muzzle Energy peaked at nearly 32 Ft/Lbs in our testing, so it's also pretty powerful.

I've got to tell you that I started-out thinking it would be somewhat clunky to shoot. But I had to change my mind as the test ran on...

@hardairmag, a much-anticipated review done well! Thanks for giving this interesting PCP a chance to prove itself. Not all things to all people, but it looks to be a really fine tool for entry level PCP shooting. I myself am very interested in this gun in .177, as I am a big fan of low power shooting. Just love the accuracy and mild shooting behavior at the lower fps ranges.

We make basic accuracy tests at 10 yards because that's the indoor range we have. Also, here in upstate New York, the Winter is long. Without indoor shooting, we would find it very difficult to run reviews for a good part of the year.

As you can see, we do take the best-performing 10-yard pellet and also shoot it outdoors at 25 yards. This is done to address the question you raise.

We've also investigated the "hidden power adjuster" on this gun in another post today. I hope you will also find this of interest :)

rjfle arrived may 10 packaged well everything worked.after 250 rounds using 9 different 22 pellets, best 10 yard group 1 and a half inchs best twenty yard group 3 inchs
returned rifle to american tactical as it wont group at any range, will pick up replacement tommorrow, hopefully its a good one but I HAVE MY DOUBTS. NONETHE LESS AMERICAN TACTICAL has been a first class outfit, murphy charles or sherry helpful, now I got to hope that an unregulated pcp,can some how shoot as good as a benjamin pcp that costs less than half as much,is also unregulated and I doubt it,though hope springs eternal, they say its accurate,Ihope I get one that proves em right.first impression, nine and one half pounds with bushnell illuminated 4-16-40, rifle gets harder to pump as pressure builds,I want to like it,but when almost every pellet gun I own will outshoot it, the gee whiz factor
of the side lever, built in pump,etc,.,., faces a severe shot stringing problem, tried different pressures couldnt find a sweet spot,So maybe its just a bad one,we will see.

Just a little to add about the accuracy or maybe precision/repeatability that I noticed with my .22 Freedom. I had to free float the barrel to get consistent groups. I just removed the slug that fit around the barrel inside the shroud. I was nearly certain that as resivor air pressure changed the resivor would push against the barrel shroud therefore pushing against the barrel with varying force dependent on pressure. 1/2” to 3/4” groups at 50 yards now with JSB 18.1g. No problem with pump so far.

Well takes American Tactical customer service today about the issue with the pump. I asked her about just repairing it myself. She told me that a service rep for nova vista will be at American Tactical Thursday and Friday a will talk to me about the paperweight I have right now and guide me in repairing the issue with the pump. Have to say the customer service is very good and will keep you all informed on what happens.

update second rifle arrived yesterday first three shots 3600 psi fill all shots touch. some stringing in next three pump back up to 3600 can live with this Im thinking much better than first rifle, and pump arm doesnt scrape stock which was annoyying on first rifle. Anyway twenty shots in stops cocking, bolts goes back but wont cock trigger.
back to american tactical who is talking with the people today in order to service these airguns they are just beginning to get a feel for. I bought it to replace the sharp ace hunter that I always never could afford until after they stopped making them.Like a sheridan a or b model dreams of the working airgunner. Nova may be cool, but it is a complex bad boy,and while i get intimate with all my air guns something tells me I may get too close to this one will see.

I’m going to get the Seneca Aspen hopefully around Xmas time I have a Hatsan 130s .30 cal So this will be my first PCP and a little bit of pumping isn’t going to be hard when you’re used to a 50lbs + gun for every shot you take. I love the idea of having a marauders style mag and if set up right you can easily shoot 10 consistent shots and if you want power you can adjust it to do that too. My gun is powerful but only out to 30 or 35 yards and it shoot only pellets. I’ve been reading that people can shoot Nielsen slugs and are getting great performance out of The Nova Freedom that’s great. Sounds like whether you’re punching paper for hunting the Seneca Aspen can do it all.
