First pigeons with Crown and slugs!

Only had a couple of hours this morning. It was -5*F at sunrise, so I zeroed in the car and did a hasty trajectory validation at 90 as the pigeons started coming out of the silo.

Got the first one at 45 yds. Second one at 116yds. 3rd one at 62. Here's a pic of the 3rd one.

These were with NSA 23gr .218 slugs at 925fps (60*F). I will get back out tomorrow, will shoot the whole day. I will also try the 21gr slugs and 18gr pellets.

I need to get the footage on the computer later and check to see if the slugs flew true or not. I couldn't tell through the scope.

So far so good!

Sweet, I’m happy you got it all put together and are finally shooting. Can’t wait to hear how they work out, which weights shoot best and see some numbers. I’d love to see more video too, we all love that.

My liner shipped yesterday and should be here mid-week. I have 10 different slugs from 25.5gr to 45gr to try out. FX recommended the lighter slugs from 26gr to 32gr. for the 25cal. We’ll see I guess.

Have a good one Bob!

Where did you buy the kit? I'm wanting to convert my Crown .25 to .22

Doug,

Yes, working on the video now. It's not great though as only one shot came out good. The others were way overexposed, though I did include the long shot. And a bunch of bonus clips on starlings getting wrecked with the Streamline last week.

Crusher,

It's not really a conversion kit as it was a whole separate caliber kit. It was an expensive way to go about it but I really wanted to shoot slugs so it was the only way to get a longer sleeve. I was going to buy a larger caliber kit anyway, which was one of the reasons I went with the Crown.....so I could have two calibers without needing to have a whole separate gun. So the 25 caliber kit is now 500mm instead of 600.

I don’t know a thing about slugs but I am assuming that a slug is a solid projectile and for my use I have concerns about how far these things travel past our targets especially while shooting at steep angles. Not to say that slugs are more of a concern just that being heavier the momentum will of course tend to carry them futher.

I’ve been doing some drive by’s and I see a good number of possible spots (lots of pigeons roosting on the top of silo’s )but it seems there are two requirements for consideration. First is finding a hiding spot because if the birds see ya it’s over pretty quickly and then finding a direction to shoot that doesn’t have a problem with misses ( or shoot thru’s ) falling into danger down range

My point being heavy projectiles require even more care. At some point too much is too much. I understand the increased accuracy and range potential. I guess too there could be some concern about damage to metal roofs as well

i know Bob is careful and one heck of a marksmen but the mortals among us and myself encluded need to be real careful even though “it’s just an air rifle”. These things are pretty serious weapons and getting more so. Right?
