First PCP... nova freedom and some pellet experiments

Here’s the update on the pump issue. American Tactical just sent me a new gun and did not say what happened to the pump. Very happy to say the new gun shoots as good as the old. I do wish they would of said what happened for future reference but I am happy with the outcome. I do have to give American Tactical a big ? for customer service as they were very pleasant to deal with.

I wonder if they will send me a new one also. I sent mine back to them a while ago. I feel bad if they are on the hook for a bunch of defective units...hopefully it falls on the manufacturer and not on American Tactical.

The whole thing just reinforces my lifetime observation that buying Chinese stuff is a coin toss at best. Every other thing I get from harbor freight ends up being junk. Then I bought a Chinese airgun and it broke. Then I bought a Chinese compressor and it showed up as junk...rusty with cross threaded fittings. Someday I will learn.

Little update on the pellet work I was doing... I have found resizing the rabbit magnum II 25grain pellets (bullet type pellets) does make a substantial difference in my nova freedom.

Using the chrony (3000psi starting pressure for each test group) I found that I gained about 20fps after resizing them to .215. The accuracy also improved substantially at 50 yds. It was shooting the resized 25grain pellets at about 810 fps. It could shoot them faster but shot count would suffer...as would my arm from pumping the gun so much.

after testing different hammer spring settings, I got the gun so I could shoot about 1.25" groups at 50yds on LOW power with 14-18grain pellets, then on HIGH power the resized 25 grain pellets would pretty much hit the same mark at 50yds. The high/low knob is a nice way to switch between light and heavy pellets, and maintain accuracy once it is set up accordingly.

Also, I suspect the best resize for those rabbit magnums would be .213 which is 5.41.... when I "slugged" the barrel I got 5.40...

so, 213 would be just a tad larger to get the snugness in the barrel. As far as I can tell, they don't offer a .213 sizing die. I am thinking I will get a .177 sizing die and have it modified accordingly at a machine shop. .215 is the smallest 22cal die that they sell on the NOE website

And the pump problem is definitely the piston oring. The pics are after cleaning the piston up. Now just to get the new viton oring and I’m back in business. Easy gun to take apart and found out from the factory they need to learn how to put lube in the gun. Came completely dry from the factory and that was probably the burnt issue.

I got mine 7 days ago. Pump was acting funny. I looked carefully at all components....they were all dry !!. I doused every connection, frictoing and rubbing piont on the gun....then i read the manual..ha ha. Put ten drops of sil lube in the intake of pump. I got a little easier to pump. I added more lube. Pumped it more and started to hear the intake valve working..flapping. It has been an excelent gun for me. Still doing testing. I sent the shroud/end cap for adapter and fitting. Will have a short Donny LDC on it as the sweet spot is noisy at the muzzle even with 21 g kodiaks 850 fps. So far it is a keeper.
