First hunt with the Akela

I have 2 Centerpoint 4x16x40 illuminated Tag reticle AO, scopes one on my 22 impact, & one on my 25 wildcat 3, they are great hunting scopes. I think they are close to ur scopes weight but alot longer they cost around 70.00 at walmart, pryamid air etc. This yr i have 182 gray squirrels so far & last year 242, with these scopes. Check them out i love them, very clear & i have 800.00 scopes these are my hunting scopes. Maybe those quail won't fly off then JohnL57.

Good Luck Buddy

Hunting in the fog is Great, also after a very light dusting of snow. Often find a cubby gathered under a conifer or brush feeding, at which time multiple birds can be harvested with an airgun. I'm not tempted to take head shots as that will prevent you from gathering more than one bird. Head shot causes the bird to go into a death spin alarming the cubby with all the birds leaving Dodge. I only take shots when the bird is looking away, placing the pellet between the shoulders, sort of speaking, which results in the bird expiring instantly without movement. This enables multiple shoots and hopefully enough birds for dinner. I then leave that cubby and remaing birds for seed for next year.

I'm still waiting for the weather to change here in N. Calif. Thanks for posting John. You look to be quite the provider as over the years I have seen your bounties posted, quail and rabbit.. I already had dinner but find my mouth watering after looking over you post. Cheers

Hi John,

If my recollection serves me right, you mainly hunt with springers? I usually hunt with pcp and prefer to shoot at a distance no closer than 40 yards. If conditions are right as mention in last post, three or four birds is not out of question. Can't say I have taken 5 at one time using an air gun, my hat is off to you. Bottom line is it's very rewarding to hunt with an airgun while enabling us a bounty for the table. In the last 10 to 12 years I have preferred to leave the shot gun in the safe! Have you had the opportunity to go after turkey? My favorite to hunt with an airgun.

Cheers

Houli-

I'm a well rounded hunter-for rabbits in the brush I usually grab my springer. For quail, shots could be from 10-50 yards so it's PCPs when I hunt quail. I am hoping the fast reload time on the Akela may help, but the birds are wary this season. In other news, rabbits have gotten almost invisible the last week since we had our first frost. The only ones I see are usually belly crawling away at top speed in heavy cover. Makes it more challenging! Good thing I filled up the freezer early in the season.
