First Blood with 245,580 Foot Pounds of Energy
I like feral pigeons.
Let me explain:
—I don't like them for desert.
—I don't like them pooping everywhere I live.
—I don't like them spreading deseases.
—I don't like them destroying my city's historic buildings from the 1500's.
—But I DO LIKE THEM sitting within range at my permissions.
—And I DO LIKE THEM sitting on the streets when I'm driving.
Now, I have been a terrible shot when hunting with my car.
To explain: When I'm driving and I see a pigeon on the street I try to hit it. — But usually I'm only seeing them on residential narrow streets — so consequently my speed is rather slow — and therefore I have neverbeen able to hit a single one.
Today, however I was on a larger avenue. Despite the rather steep incline I was able to keep my speed at around 45 mph (70 km/h).
There were two of them rats on the street, about 3 feet off the sidewalk. I switched lanes, and swerved a bit to sweep up the space between them and the sidewalk, their likely escape direction.
I hit one hard, it made a loud noise on impact.
I couldn't tell where I got it, but in the rearview mirror I saw the street white with feathers, maybe 40 feathers or more.
I went ahead and chalked that up as a confirmed kill on my urban hunting list.
You want to know the terminal ballistics?
Sure, here's the calculation with ChairGun Pro Mobile.
PROJECTILE:
Brand and Type: Audi A4
Weight: 27,006,440 gr (= 3,358 lbs)
Shape: blunt
Meplat size: 55" x 23"
BALLISTICS:
Projectile velocity: 64fps
Impact energy: 245,580 FPE
At a quarter of a million footpounds of energy I anticipate the standard criticism that some hunters have the habit of throwing out there: "Overkill!!!"
The response to such charge I learned from a fellow airgunner: "You can never have too much power for killing pests."
Matthias
PS: This was very much fun! Now, for my Father's Day gift I'd like to long-range kill one with a gun rather than with a car.
