I am looking at purchasing my first air rifle. I plan to use it mainly for small game and pests. The two guns that I have narrowed it down to are the Benjamin Trail NP 2 and the Stoeger X20S, both in .22. I want to know if the Benjamin is worth the extra $70 or if any one else has recommendations for guns below $240ish. Thanks

It is my understanding that Stoeger is made by BAM. I like BAM air rifles. Here is another review.

Should you ever need warranty Crosman is one of the best.
And in your price range you might want to look at the RWS 34 with T-06 trigger.

I've never shot either. I've held a Stoeger in a pawn shop and it seemed like a nice gun. Held a Benjamin in a pawn shop too but I'd be concerned about that trigger. My experience with Crosman triggers, low end guns, has not been pleasant. Not sure what the trigger on the Stoeger is. Another brand to check out would be Hatsan. They offer plenty of models in .22 and the Quattro trigger is pretty good.

I currently own both a Benjamin Trail NP All Weather, and a Hatsan 87 Vortex QE. The triggers between the two are like night and day with the Hatsan being the better. Also I have a Hatsan 125, and while the trigger is a heavier pull due to it being in the magnum springer power range it is still better than the Benjamin Trail.
Don't get me wrong, loved the Benjamin Trail NP as a starter rifle, but I like the Hatsan 87 more. Another thing I like about the Hatsan rifles are their advertising. Where other companies use exceptionally light alloy pellets to get come up with their fps claims Hatsan uses heavier lead pellets for their numbers. The packaged scopes aren't the best, but they're usable so for around $200 they're hard to beat.

Think the trigger you're thinking about 22junkie is the GRT or GTX. Remember seeing one of those worked on some Stoeger rifles while I was considering a trigger upgrade for my Benjamin NP.

I second the 34. Just a better quality rifle than the ones you mentioned. Refurbished ones come up on Airgun Depot's site fairly often. I have two Diana refurbs from them and they are both outstanding.

I looked into the rws 34 and found a version called the 34p which is closer to my price range. I am just wondering if the only difference is the polymer stock.

I'm thinking hard about a 34. So many air rifles, so little money. I wish that dealers in the US would carry more of their models.
