Finally got to test out the Yong Heng mod I did

I started my large Great White 97 cu ft, he calls it, 4500psi tank top off at about 2900psi and filled to a bit over 4000psi

I used no ice, in my 2.5gal reservoir, as I usually do but I did take my head temp past the 60 deg C I usually stop at just to get these results.

0 67 F 22.8 C 73 F

5 70 F 60 C 140 F Tank at 3500psi

10 75 F 61 C 141.8 F

13 78 F 63 C 145.4 F Tank at 4000psi plus

So the radiator mod is a good one as it allows me to top off the tank and still stay inside the operating temperature specs for the Yong Heng. Even with only half the water suggested. I may soon add a slightly larger reservoir though.

You don't NEED a radiator for your Yong Heng. Using the full 5 gallons of water as suggested or putting a little ice in otherwise werqs quite well. 

So I added a bigger reservoir.

Interesting and a nice clean setup. But my 2+ year old YH with roughly 2 gallon reservoir WITH ICE and an external fan will still top off my GW tank to 4500 (usually starting around 3600) in about 11 minutes and stay well below 60C. Did it last week. Your setup is nice-it's clean and a bit easier to use than ice in water. But ice in the water works, especially if one believes that cooler is better. Many don't believe that and certainly your setup should work well in that case. I prefer cooler operation and don't mind using a bit of ice now and then.

I know about the Ice I have been using a half gallon jug of ice in my reservoir for near two years now myself. I only did the mod cuz I was bored and had purchased the parts two years back. Saw some others do it and so I finally had to dig the parts out and use them. A little ice goes a long way to help these things stay cool and it is really all you need. Still tech is cool too. ;^)

I agree and understand the concept. It's a nice setup you've got and it's nice to just "flip the switch" and fill.

@ Mr Biohazardman-

just curious and wondering in all your mod designs if you’ve ever thought about installing a type of aluminum heat sink. I installed an aluminum cylinder heat sink with fins(3” round x 14” length) on my trucks power steering fluid system when I converted my old school Dodge’s vacuum brakes over to hydroboost. Mounted the cooler behind the front bumper. It has I believe 5/16” or 3/8” barbed ports in/out. Bought it from Summit Racing.


I was always curious on these Yong Hengs in an effort to run them cool why no one has ever brought that up as a way of pulling some heat out, especially with a fan blowing against it. Your thoughts?

I have thought about something similar to cool the stainless cooling lines for sure. I have seen what several others have done but have not found exactly what I want as yet.

I almost used a trans cooler radiator, that I had laying around to cool the water, but ended up using the computer radiator and fans because they are what I was more familiar with.

I would imagine many of the trans cooler radiators would werq fairly well for the water cooling needed but that is only part of the solution. 

One really needs a better main compressor fan or an auxiliary fan blowing through the compressor to finish off the cooling system.

Hello biohazardman,

You had suggested that I find some "Wetter Water" ( or a name close to that ) to add into my 5-gallon cooling tank, I bought some stuff at the NAPA auto store called NAPA Kool. They recommend 1-pint to every four gallons in a radiator, and I plan to try 1-pint to my 5-gallon tank. I will let you know how it works in a couple of months.
