Finally got my Hector Sightron mounted on the ol' .177 Cricket Rifle 12/4/15

I have spent the last 3 afternoons trying to optically mount this bad boy to my Cricket Rifle. I get off at 3:30 and by the time 5:00 get's here it's too dark to do anything.
I've had it off and on the rifle more times than I care to count and would rather have a tooth pulled than take it off again ;-)

I used the Extra High Burris 30 mm Signature Zee Weaver scope rings to mount it to my Weaver rail on the Cricket and the bell just does clear the Barrel band by less than 1/8 of an inch. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/1548398483/burris-30mm-signature-zee-weaver-style-rings-matte

I used a +10 posi-align insert in the back bottom and a -10 posi-align insert in the front bottom of the ring cups and the front insert had to be canted several degrees to get the POI as close as I could before touching the knobs ;-)

The closest I could get it without touching the windage or elevation knobs was 1/8" low and 3/8" left. Then I adjusted the elevation 4 clicks and windage 11 to 12 clicks and was dead on at 30 yds.

I should mention the POI in the photo is actually the Point of Aim. I shot that hole to get an aim point, then the next shot was 3/8" left and low of it. The shot in the middle was after 5 clicks right ;-)

This is a picture of the clicks needed to get me dead center finally. Close enough for government work ;-)

Here's a couple of pics of it freshly mounted on the rifle this afternoon. Also put on the 5 inch side wheel, as I plan to set this rig up for a few Field Target matches.

As for the scope itself.......I purchased one of the second batch that Hector had Sightron work their magic on. Don't ask this ol' redneck what they did or what a MOA is cause I ain't that educated yet ;-)
Anyway the scope is a Sightron SIII FT 10-50X60 with the MOA-H reticle. Here's Hector's link on it ! http://www.ctcustomairguns.com/the-heacutectors-special-scope-by-sightron.html

Ran out of daylight to shoot groups and my ol' heart was just racing too hard to hold the rifle steady on the bags anyway. Luckily I had no wind during the sighting in process ;-)

Peace and posi-align grease
Jimmy

Hi Mark
Yeah, I got all the ranges marked on the 5 inch scope wheel. Got it marked from 9yds to 55 yds. It's light years ahead of anything I've used so far.
Of course 50 yds and 55yd mark is a little closer than I prefer. However it does snap into focus to be able to tell the difference between the two. I'm using it on 30 power for now. Will be shooting in the "Unlimited" class this year ;-)

The distance between the lower yardages like 10 and 11 yds is easy enough to tell in half yard increments ;-)
I use the space between my back scope rings for my pointer and as you can see in the pic it's at 10.5 yds ;-)

Here's some pics of where I shot at the lines to determine my hold overs. It's flat between 22 and 35 yds, so no need to shoot those yardages between the two.

And marked my holdovers on a picture of the reticle for reference. I'll make one a a little prettier in the future and laminate it. I just need to shoot at these distances many more times for conformation.

I have it zeroed for 28 yds and shot this WRABF target with it this past weekend. 247 with 8X's my highest score so far.

Thanks Mark
Thanks AJ.........that target above is just one I shot here at home. We don't have any bench rest comps around these neck of the woods yet.
I've got my scope set up for Field Target matches where range finding is a key factor to making the shot on the kill zones of the metal knockdown targets.

I managed 4 FT matches my first year. Three of those with my M-rod and the last one with my AA S500. But only made it to 3 last year with the S500. Hope to get to 4 or 5 matches this year with the Cricket. I hope this set set up does me right this year ;-)

I regularly travel 3+ hours for FT. The closest to me is 1 hour but whether there will be more than one match there this coming season is up in the air. I know there are two places in Ohio that hold FT matches I just can't remember the names. If I have to drive more than four hours I'll stay the night before just to be fresh for the match. I'll ask around on the FT forum and find out what i can for ya.

I spent the majority of my young life traveling around everywhere East of the Mississippi racing everything from gokarts to sprint cars. After starting a family and giving up racing, I just hate to travel. I live 9.5miles from work and I rarely am willing to drive much more than an hour for anything. My dad still owns a very successful race team and offers to take me to races all over the country and I still won't travel. Guess I have turned into a hermit?? LOL
