filling a scuba tank from empty to 3k psi

just a quick question for some one who has done it

if i wanted to fill a scuba tank from empty to 3k psi using a hatsan spark compressor do i need to let the compressor fill hose pressure build up to 3 k before opening the valve on the scuba tank ?? or can i start the compressor open the valve on the tank and let it fill ?? ive never filled one from empty before im sure i could figure it out but figured id ask and see if

anyone has done it that would know the best option to get it filled

thanks for any info

From zero, fill with an open valve. After 20 mins of run time, close the tank valve open the compressor bleed valve and shut off the pump. Leave power on to keep the cooling fan running. Allow to cool for 30+ minutes.

BE SURE TO NEVER START THE COMPRESSOR WHILE THE FILL HOSE HAS PRESSURE IN IT.

Open the bleed valve, start the pump and allow 5 seconds before you close the bleed valve. Bring fill hose close to tank pressure, then slowly open tank valve to put air into your tank.

Again, never start the pump with pressure in the hose. Ask me how I know 🙄. Take your time and the pump will give you a long service life.

If the tank that you are filling is empty, there is no reason to pressurise the line before opening the valve. Even if you are topping off a half-full tank, it's not necessary to equalize the pressure as long as you open the valve slowly. Filling a SCUBA bottle from empty is a big ask from a Hatsan Spark. It may be doable but only in stages. Filling without stopping for breaks may be asking for trouble.

thanks for the info guys

not looking to do a complete fill from empty in one shot will probably fill 1k at a session then let it cool off once we get it full it will mostly only need topped off after that so

the spark should be able to handle that pretty well

ill try filling from zero without pressurizing the line n see how it goes ill fill to 1000 then give it a break fill another 1000 break then top it off at 3 k on the last run

should work well we will see
