Few questions about ATN 4k Pro

Hello,

I have some questions concerning the 4k Pro but first let me say when the 4k Pro first came out I bought one. Unfortunately, it didn't work as advertised and I sent it back. That was last April and I'm hoping some changes have been made since then.

1. The first time I went to insert the micro SD card, I didn't notice the huge gap between the plastic cover and the top of the slot and managed to push the card into the scope, behind the cover, crappy design. I did manage to get the card out but has the huge gap been fixed? I have asked around but haven’t gotten any clear answers yet.

2. I have an X Sight II HD 3x14 and I can plug the scope into my computer via USB so I don't have to remove the sd card all the time, which could be several times a day. I was not able to do that with the 4k I previously had, has that been fixed or added?

3. I recall the top buttons being sometimes funky when pressed and the side wheel slow to respond when turned, are those still issues?

I was not able to record at 120 fps, but now I see videos on YouTube (EDgun Leshiy) showing some great slow motion shots and that’s what I’m looking for. The X Sight II just doesn’t cut it when doing slow motion.

Cheers, PB

They made a new part for this... you just need to call them, and they will ship it to you. I agree... really silly design.

2. I have an X Sight II HD 3x14 and I can plug the scope into my computer via USB so I don't have to remove the sd card all the time, which could be several times a day. I was not able to do that with the 4k I previously had, has that been fixed or added?

You can do this, but I've run into issues doing this on a mac. I just remove it, and move along with my day

3. I recall the top buttons being sometimes funky when pressed and the side wheel slow to respond when turned, are those still issues?

It's a single button under the pad, and as a result can feel funky at first. All that's required is a direct, and firm push. They have done some software updates that addressed this too. Honestly... after a few min of being annoyed with the button I haven't had any issues with it since. It's just different, not broken.

I was not able to record at 120 fps, but now I see videos on YouTube (EDgun Leshiy) showing some great slow motion shots and that’s what I’m looking for. The X Sight II just doesn’t cut it when doing slow motion.

first... thanks for watching... glad you're enjoying the videos! In regards to 120... I've heard some folks say they could do it since day one, but it wasn't until that first or second firmware release that I was able to select it. One thing I really like about 120 is that it removes the reticle on video. I just edit it in after, and I prefer this as I think it just gets in the way. In the context of slow motion... 120 is pretty much the bare minimum for tracking a projectile the size of a pellet. Lighting plays a big part in that. If you have experience with digital cameras or just photography in general... it's really no different. Another key factor given 120 is the max (for right now at least) is pellet speed. At night the IR light will pick it up pretty much at any speed, but during the day... a 34gr pellet has a limit of probably about 650FPS. I shoot at 585 (~26ft/lbs) with the Leyla, and about 540 with the Leshiy when in .25

I’d like to get my hands on some raw footage of about a minute of each, 30, 60, and 120 fps during day-time. The videos on YouTube are downgraded and not raw, so downloading them isn’t what I’m looking for. If anyone can help with that let me know.

Let me see what I can do on this for you... It's a hectic time at work, but I should be able to help you. The issue with 120 is that the computer (at least my mac) recognizes it as slow motion, and slows it down... so it's not going to be "raw" I can choose a beginning and end mark, but I always end up tweaking stuff during editing, so it doesn't really bother me. I'm sure it's b/c my default in Quicktime. I do everything from my phone, so I'm really only using the mac as a middle man using Airplay to transfer directly to my phone.

Cheers, PB

I'll try my best to answer your questions in-line above... but a general comment first... you need to think of the ATN X Sight as a digital camera with a reticle. You really can't compare glass to a digital screen... I mean you can, but what I'm saying is you can't ;) The biggest achilles heel right now is clarity at high power. There is no comparison between a high-end glass at 20x and the ATN. It's only software though... so with more and more data, they will soon be able to address even that.

See my answers above to your questions... the rest below is just some additional thoughts...

This last update made the ballistic calc fully functional, and it goes down to 5meters! While they are still working on a GA profile with data directly from JSB (hopefully others) it's still fully functional and works with the G1 profile. They just released the integrated range finder (still not shipping, but I suspect they are on trucks as they announced it)... so you can be looking through the scope, day or night, press a button to range, and the reticle adjusts automatically. I was on the phone with someone doing it in their backyard and they were giggling like a little kid.

While this is what they (ATN and us customers) wanted and expected on day 1, it just wasn't there. I think people were thinking it was a hardware issue, and were returning them. I'm sure there were a few out there that were crap, but for the most part it was all software.

The last 2 firmware versions... especially the current one are the real deal. When they fully embrace the airgun world, which is happening, this is going to be the biggest wave of innovation to hit the sport. Hunting and pest control enthusiast will embrace it. You get a badass camera, range finder, day and night capabilities, and a mini computer onboard helping make sure you don't miss... think about all the stuff you don't have to bring! Competitions however (ex: EBR)... I only assume they will ban it... although so many people cheat already with their pellets (side bar... I don't see how this is cheating)... My point is... add in a bluetooth weather gauge, and a 3 year old could win with this scope if they allowed it.

like it or not... its 100% the future.

Thanks tflats99 and I'm the same guy (Panic Button) that left you a comment a couple days ago asking how you liked the scope. I didn't want to wait, so I ordered one today. I'm sure it will be much better than the first one I had, it better be anyway. If it records at 120 fps I will be happy.

I understand about cameras, etc., that's why I was so disappointed when I got the first one and it didn't record at 120 fps. It was the only reason I bought the scope in the first place. And yes, optical is always superior. If you don't have a crystal clear image to start with, enlarging it digitally just make a bad image worse.

As for the raw videos, since I just ordered the scope an hour or two ago and it will be delivered Monday, doesn't make sense for you to mess around and waste your time with it. I will probably have the scope before you would get a chance to do it. Thanks for the offer and maybe I can edit my post and delete that part out, will give that a try.

I'm shooting an H&N Sport Baracuda Power 21.4 grain cooper from my .22 Marauder at almost 800 fps and when the light is right, I can see the pellet when recording at 60 fps with the xs2. It's no-where near as clear as what you are capturing, mine look like comet tails when it can be seen.

I just opened one of my videos at random and did a screen capture, then cropped it so the quality is poor but you can see the long yellowish streak. I'm hoping for much better quality from this new 4k once it gets here. I'm also hoping the 120 fps will not show the blur so much right after the rifle fires. That's why the screen capture is somewhat blurry as you know.

Thanks again, PB

Congrats on your purchase PB. I hope your ATN works better for you than mine did for me. I just sent it back because of pretty much all the things that were mentioned above.

I got mine off optics planet last month, new, and ordered the rangefinder attachment with it. The rangefinder hasn't shipped yet so I never had a chance to play with it.

I also had to deal with the silliness of the gap around the SD card. I had to uncrew the plastic cover and turn the scope on her side to rattle it out.

The 120fps worked on mine but I just wasn't happy with the clarity and zoom. BTW my iphone 8 does 240fps so a sideshot or similar would be my next attempt with slow mo.

note that only the sensor is 4kish, the screen is 720 and the best recording is still 1080. I think the sensor needs to be a higher resolution because when you zero the reticle you are actually cropping the image to center your POI.

I didn't have any problem with the buttons but I would experience the software freezing on a fairly daily basis using the last two firmware updates and with the firmware that it shipped with. That with the last straw for me.

Still the technology is phenomenal, once it gets sorted I'd love to pick it up again or whatever the newest would be...

Best of luck!

Thanks and this will be my second time around the block with the 4k Pro. Bought one when they first came out and not much worked so I sent it back. I will find out Monday when it's delivered.

I noticed there was a new firmware version out, .330, so I downloaded it yesterday. I think .312 was before that and I'm guessing the one I get will have it or the version before that, can't recall the version at the moment.

If I recall, there was no way to save the firmware the scope came loaded with and ATN does not have older versions for download. If I want to try an earlier version, I'd have to ask to see who has what and what works best.

I'm going to search around and see what I can find out about .330.

Cheers, PB
