Fellow Illinoisans, some useful links and info!

For the last few months i have been pushing hard to get the law changed here in Illinois to open up more hunting for us and to see about loosening some of the restriction here in Illinois about the gun laws. I just received a call today from the office of senator Tammy Duckworth about interest in changing the laws. So fingers crossed on that angle. I may receive a call directly from her soon. I have also emailed Illinois DNR about once a week with my opinion on changing the law. Still have waiting on a response from them. I have sent several emails to the governors office and have received a email stating that they will look into the issue of Illinois air rifle laws and hunting. Bellow i will leave some links to the form that i used as well as link to the several offices.

Just today, Illinois initiated the first stage of a State Fire Arms License to be required in addition to FFL.. A further attempt to destroy our second amendment rights. As I understand it, Illinois is the only state that considers air rifles a firearm.

I am trying to get my self retired. Then Its bye-bye to this paradise of corruption, ineptitude, and failure..

Why don't you get .308 for 1/3 rd of air rifle price and do hunting like everybody else? What is fun of hurting game with underpowered tool?

People wont hunt deer with .223 (1300 ft-lb) cause it is considered inhumane and you suggest to hurt deer with 200-500 lb-ft (for most powerful air rifles?

all that activity will only give rotten/failed/corrupted IL gvt more reasons to regulate air rifles and other states to use that as example?

really .308 should tame your urge....

Hunting deer with a centerfire rifle is illegal in IL, so the rifles you suggest are not an option. Current legal options in IL for taking deer are archery, shotgun, muzzleloader and handgun with considerable restrictions on cartridge type and minimum legal muzzle energy of 500fpe. An air rifle delivering 500fpe would be comparable to hunting with some handguns, but more accurate in the hands of most shooters, and quieter.

I consider airgun hunting for large game much like archery, where it is necessary to put more emphasis on patience, good hunt/stalk technique and optimal shot placement. And as archery hunters prove every season, those are the skills that bring home the meat, not the highest power or longest range available.

But if you aren't comfortable with taking a deer by airgun, declining to do so would be your best option.

You hit that right on the money.

I think the corruption is the reason. They see this as another potential form of tax revenue, and "tougher gun laws" are popular with most people, so they think it'll be easy to ram that through.

I think it's falling on deaf ears here, MOSIN. But let me say this: I think you'll have more success with letters than emails. For emails, the secretary replies with form wording. For letters at least, they're slightly harder to "delete", as it has to be done manually.
