Fanboy's?

Another post to bash FX some and call their users the disparaging term 'Fanboys' Well I will say to you whiners and complainers put on your big boys pants and realize no one is telling you that you have to buy FX rifles, watch their videos or praise their products. Most of the air rifles I own are FX's because they meet my needs and requirements. For some they don't so why complain you are adults with free will and brains to make your own decisions. I watch videos of all brands of rifles and am smart enough to separate out the hype and see what each rifle has to offer. I personally am getting tired of the complainers and posts that offer nothing to add to our knowledge and enjoyment of all air rifle. Bill

Bill, I agree and 100%. If you don't like what your seeing there's a little "X" at the upper right of the screen. Just click on it.... I have the same option of any of the YouTube videos, I use it all the time, hint hint.

I like to go down the less travelled path, to see what the hordes have overlooked. Guess that makes me an anti-fan boy?

edit - and by the way I don't own any newer FX and I hate sorting through all the FX threads to find ones I feel worthwhile. So maybe you and the others could stop posting threads about FX so I can come here and read what I want to enjoy? Works both ways buddy.

I come to this and other forums as I said to learn about air rifles and support equipment to make this hobby more enjoyable. People post about FX products as that is what interests them, so your comment about sorting through FX posts make no sense to me. And as I said in another post calling someone a fanboy in not a positive comment. Maybe what we need is another category call 'Whiners Complainers and Unhappy People' so I and others don't have to weed through posts that don't help anyone. And isn't funny how it is seems only FX gets bashed here. Bill

Crosman999 I love watching your videos and think your dog Marly is the coolest dog and I am glad you take her out on your hunts and give her a good life. And yes for me "Fanboy" is a trigger word when then everyone immediately starts to bash FX products. It is okay to offer constructive criticism like I and others did about the new FX Wildcats magazine be in a bad place for lefties. Or my testing regarding FX's new Hybrids slugs in .25 cal. not expanding but some folks just like talk down FX in general. Sorry if I made you feel bad about your post. Bill

The term fanboy doesn’t bother me because I’m not one. Just like the word geek, dork, idiot, etc. Nothing wrong with really liking a product and supporting it. A fanboy instantly gets offended when someone has something negative to say about a Dodge, Kimber or Harley and thinks everything else is inferior. Most on this forum are fanboys of airguns in general. A broad spectrum fanboy isn’t a bad thing.

It seems like they either go FX or Daystate. I notice guys that affiliate with airguns of Arizona will be daystate/brocock users. Utah airgun guys will be FX users

That would kinda make sense looking at who the primary distributers are.

This is why I appreciate channels like AEAC that don't represent anyone. Although I don't know if I've ever seen Steve trash a product either. A good reviewer, IMO, will review good and bad products and give honest marks as appropriate.

AEAC is great but watch the intro look at the sponsors. He definitely represents companies although i think hes a trustworthy guy.

Here’s my problem with FX. IMO their product changes so fast that they really hurt the secondary market. I don’t need my airgun to make itself obsolete in under a year due to a power plenum, a STX liner, a superior liner. What’s next?

but to the point of the thread, yes, they market themselves very well. But EdGun has plenty of fanboys and does zero marketing.

Those are called rolling improvements and owners for the most part i would guess love that. So you had a smooth twist impact back in the day and the impact x comes out. The ST model is suddenly obsolete? Even if they wanted to upgrade they could because FX work like that very well. But hey who cares about facts.

Ok, you said one brand, what was it. Be honest now. I've been through lots of PCP's and after several years and a lot of experience I have pretty much settled on one brand. Not saying it a.... F.. just a another brand.

None of the channels I watch just use one brand (AEAC, teds holdover, shooter1721, American airgunner, mr. Hollowpoint).
If I was a paid YouTuber for Daystate or FX I wouldn’t mind using them exclusively with their variety of guns. Especially when they’re releasing guns like the wildcat 3 and the delta wolf!

I don’t view the term “fanboy” or “fan girl” to be brand specific or, insulting. Don’t we all revert to being boys or girls when shooting whatever PCPs were partial to? I love shooting mine, always fun and distracting from the day to day grind.

Me a fan boy? Yeah. But I paid to join the club. Ha ha ha!

The first pcp I shot was a Daystate Air Wolf MCT .22. AMAZING! The price tag was waaaaay over my reach.

Second pcp I shot was the FX Royale 500 .25. AMAZING! Once again it was out of my league.


At the time I had a handful of nice HW spring guns and I felt that what I had was enough. Over time I wanted to try a pcp for myself. I ended up converting a couple QB78s to HPA but I always wanted to try a Daystate or FX gun. I really liked the side clocking lever of the FX gun and when I eventually wrapped my mind around spending over $1000 for an air rifle I went with a used Royale 400 .22. I found out by owning it that I liked a couple features that it had like the side lever and the power wheel. I ended up selling that rifle but I missed it. I hunted for a replacement and reminded myself about those 2 features that I really appreciated. That lead me right back to FX and I bought a .22 cal Streamline. Love it!


After some time I wanted to try a bullpup. I read and read and read. One thing that I found out from guys that tried bullpups and didn’t care for the style was the rear cocking levers. I tried to imagine what that was like and I just didn’t see myself liking the rear cocking lever and I wasn’t willing to put another $1000+ out just to try a bullpup with rear cocking and find out that I didn’t care for it. At the time it left the Wildcat at the top of the list for me. I found one for sale from a local airgunner and we met and he let me try his WC out. It was a perfect fit for me and I was already familiar with FX. I didn’t buy that particular WC but I did end up with the WC mk I in .177 dressed in walnut. I love it!

even after all that I still missed my Royale 400 in gray laminate. I found out that a dealer had the 400 in laminate for a very reasonable price so on an impulse I bought one. What can I say? I love it!


ALL 4 FX guns were great. I enjoy the 3 I have as often as I can. I would bet that I could enjoy a Daystate, Brocock, Taipan, Edgun just as much or possibly more than my FX guns but I’m content at the moment and my rifles perform great for me so I’m not looking anywhere else at the moment. FX is where I started in pcp and that’s the road I’ve travelled so far just like HW was where I started with springers and that’s the road I travelled there.


Gotta hand it to FX though. They have their product out there getting the attention and bringing in the sales. I also like that I can pin a personality to the brand. I don’t get that same connection when I read/watch about other brands.


Maybe I’d be a fanboy for a different brand if I had the opportunity to try those out first? It’s not like there is a lot of availability to shoot quality airguns to try different brands and styles. I’m pretty much considered a FREAK anyway by other shooters because I shoot pellet guns and I’m not building an AR15 or 10 or a 6.5 Creedmoor or Grendel or .338 Lapua or whatever all the time. Man, I shoot nearly EVERYDAY! Not once a month if I’m lucky like many of those guys.


If you read this far, keep the hunts and camp out videos coming Dana. It’s fun to go along for the ride. But don’t burn yourself out trying to put out a video all the time. Thanks for keeping it real!!!

The term fanboy on this site is generally linked to FX. At least that’s been my perception. I don’t find being called a fanboy as offensive. I’m sure every brand has their fanboys for whatever their reasons are. When I have a positive experience with a particular brand I look to that brand again when I am getting ready to buy. I have done that with Toyota and Honda, Cannondale and Specialized, Triscuit and Ritz. We like what we like and not everyone likes the same thing. That’s what’s so great, we have variety. You buy what you like and be passionate about it. I’ll buy what I like and I’ll be passionate about it.

It’s not the fan boy ones that get me. It’s the one(s) that shoot high and low end. He’ll take a 120dollar Gamo break barrel and shoot the same 45yard group that he shoots with a much more expensive pcp. I’ve already argued with the person lol. Either way I just don’t watch many YouTube channels now. I look at what’s being shot in competition or learn from the forums. 

Meanwhile, on average, the main page on this forum is 66% FX posts or more...every day a new post about the power plenum...every day another repeated question...meanwhile them hot fixing their guns with these plenums is considered 'innovative' in some eyes, in mine I call it as I see it, a hot fix...


I guess it makes sense, takes brain cells to see through the smoke and mirrors and it also takes brain cells to search via google OR this website to see if your question has been asked, not just once, but likely DOZENS of times.



I don't come to this forum in particular for content as it is quite repetitive (fx power plenum this, fx liner that, fx hybrid this, fx mkllllll that....) rather I come to try to assist those with issues and from time to time drop a bit of knowledge on pcp's...

I've been spending lots of free time on the internet..waaaay to much time. I've noticed a big trend of channels only using one brand. Obviously some are paid to do so but it makes me wonder if the joy is gone. Being forced to use one type of gun seems like it would get old really quickly. I think it's important to be able to use other products and have some freedom in finding faults? Just looking to see some friendly opinions on this.

I appreciate channels like yours Dana. You are honest. You are a regular guy like us. You review everything from a Hatsan Flash to your AAA Evol 30. That is cool!

Some of these channels you refer to make me wonder too.

If some of them start doing honest reviews of other brands on a regular basis on their channels will they still be invited to stay at the big mansion with the indoor pool at the next RMAC?

Ford, Dodge Chevy. They have all made good vehicles and Lemons. I suspect the airgun industry is the same. It is nice to keep that in mind and not get hurt when someone has a difference of opinion. Personally I don't tend to put as much confidence in a "true" fan boy weather talking about cars, guns or phones. If someone thinks one brand is always best, they probably have a lot to learn. And will shut down a forum because folks are scared to ask a question. It nice to be able to ask stupid questions. And its nice when we get honest feed back of a product. Not to long ago I ordered a couple thousand dollars worth of stuff that was gonna be the next best airgun in the world in some eyes. Because of peoples honest feedback I was able to save myself from what would have been a mistake for my use. I hope I didn't say anything wrong!
