Fanboys and Girls...

WELL IM WAITING FOR 600 CALIBER SPACE GUN WITH SELECT FIRE MISSILES, PHOTON TORPEDOES AND LASER BEAMS. Part of learning is figuring out what doesn’t work and this also creates a boutique market a niche of people making improvements and sharing the fruits of their frustration either for sale or just as fyi . This for many started with a Crossman pump bb gun or a Red Ryder and now we have all this my what a wonderful thing to pick and choose and learn.......

Laser beams are the road to regulation.......

One interesting thing I’ve noticed is the “anti-fanboy.” This is the person that hates on anything that is popular just because it’s popular or expensive. They go out of their way to discourage someone from buying the popular product because X brand is better in their mind, or cheaper.

It doesn’t happen so much on this forum, but I’ve seen it. I don’t understand why we can’t let people like what they like and be happy.

Logical.

Agreed, but the flip side is the hyper sensitive type that take is personally when the gun (car, watch etc) of their choice is critiqued in any way, even when the criticism is justified. Occasionally the reply to a criticism from fanboys is not a reasoned counter argument but becomes a personal attack on the critic.

No gun i have, had or have used is perfect, all have their faults and issues, if someone come up with a improvement then am happy to copy it,while some become very defensive saying things like “the designer knows best” . Surely that is the whole point of a forum, to share and exchange ideas?

imo there is nothing wrong with being a fanboy so long as there is reasonable acceptance that nothing is perfect. To criticise something just for being expensive or popular is equally narrow minded.

Nothing wrong with Fanboys and Fangirls (fanpersons??).

Think it’s great that people talk about things that please them and it’s good that they share their views here in a forum where we have similar interests. If in the fanperson’s excitement there is a bit of embellishment or exaggeration, well, that is ok with me. I read the posts and smile – even if the product is not something that I would consider for my own use I’m glad that we have the choices available to us.

God Bless early adopters who boldly jump into something new with both feet! No fear! Must be exciting to make the discoveries – both good and bad – and I really appreciate them posting about what they find out. Myself, being a Libra, I tend to look things over carefully before deciding to commit – impulse buying is not in my nature LOL!

Have to admit that the Anti-Fanpersons rub me the wrong way. They don’t own the product, they don’t have direct experience with the product but they have a very strong negative opinion that they (loudly) express at every opportunity. Don’t know if it is “sour grapes” or they are just miserable people who like to rain on everyone’s parade.

Don’t get me wrong - criticism, both positive and negative is good as it helps provide a clear perspective of the strengths and weaknesses of the product that is really important to the people considering a purchase. Guess what I am trying to say to the Anti-fanpersons (tactfully) is that if you don’t have anything constructive to say … then don’t say anything at all.

Anyway, off my soapbox. Have a great weekend!

I approach airguns the same way I always approached real guns or bows. What’s wrong with it. What are it’s shortcomings. Can it be fixed. A weapon must earn my appreciation. I am not blinded by bling and unboxing videos. I am not a fanboy of anything. We all know the fanboy of a car, truck, gun, etc, that looks like a buffoon defending a product that he is always working on or is rotting away. This hobby requires us to rely on each other on forums for the most part. We owe it to each other to be honest. Even if a thin skinned millennial gets offended.

Yes, we owe it to each other to relay what the shortcomings of our current favorite might be. We all know there’s no such thing as the perfect gun for everyone. We all adapt somewhat to our chosen platforms.
