Chad Ketner at Airgun Advisor had asked me a few weeks ago if I'd like to write a few articles for his web site about shooting in tournaments this Summer. Not really a "Match Report", but more what its like, whats going through my (or most shooters) heads I would guess, how we handle adversity and success during a match. The link below is my attempt at writing about my EFT event....

I'm pretty sure it was two things. One I was tight and pulled up just a hair, and I also had the scope about one click higher than it should have been. Either one thing alone would have resulted in hits, but both together were a comedy of errors... ;( Even worse, I did the same thing two days in a row. That's four easy points I left on the field. Me nine months ago would have shot 60, not 65. Without the rookie errors I made, me nine months from now would have shot much better than 65, at least 70...

Great writeup Mike. I think those of us that don't have ice flowing through our veins can relate to your sentiments.

Even though I've been competing with guns since I was 18 years old I've never been able to overcome my nerves in a bigger match setting! This usually causes me to make costly mistakes. 

A few mistakes on day one in this Oregon EFT went like this. Dialing 1.4mil instead of 2.4 mil. Why?? Because I didn't wear my other glasses with bifocals so I couldn't see the turrets well and because I was distracted with thinking of my previous miss on the last lane. Its a mistake i rarely make so i was very disappointed in myself. That's 2 points gone. Then on another lane I ranged the wrong target and missed both of them, aarrrg.

I felt like packing up my stuff and leaving, lol. On day two I was determined to not make any mistakes which I accomplished and lucked out by winning. I didn't feel like I deserved it especially since Jim had gun problems. 

Such is the chaos of competition, you never know exactly what will transpire.
