Experience based opinions on Yong Heng vendors request

Hello compressor experts,

As a newbie, would like to get input on member experiences with Yong Heng vendors. I am considering buying it from Wal-Mart since for 45$ you can get an extended warranty for 4 years. Considering the country of origin for this compressor, seems like cheap insurance. Any experiences from those who may have bought from Wally world and had to use the extended warranty would be very much appreciated. Or experiences with other vendors that may also offer an extended warranty.

Probably need to get the pertinent details as applicable to a compressor, which i have not done. Any experience on this would be great!

Thanks,

Here is my standard post to all things Yong Heng hope it is helpful.

The Yong Heng "Simple" version least expensive does not have a water separator you need one.

If you messed up and got the “Simple” version you can get parts on Aliexpress to add it for <$40 or you can spend much more on a decent water separator and filter.

The "Auto Stop" version shuts off near 3000psi probly not a good thing for most people.

So you likely want the "Hardcover" or "Set Pressure" versions your choice on the 110V or 220V.

The 220V will run approximately 15% faster here in the USA as we run our 220V at 60hz instead of the 50hz found elsewhere. This may or may not be a problem depending on the compressors environment and cooling.

I am aware that shipping has gone way up and this is no longer the least expensive place to buy the YH but it will show you the different models so you know what to look for elsewhere.

Never start them under pressure. I should have put this in here sooner.

Give them a dedicated 15amp outlet 20 would be better. They draw a bit of juice on startup especially the brand new ones. Don’t Use an extension cord unless it is short and has an honest 15+ amp rating. Preferably 12ga wire so you will not have problems.

ISO 46 may no longer be recommended although I used it for a year without failure. I am currently using the Husky Brand Synthetic or synthetic blend oil, found at Home Depot, for two years now without a problem. Top it off to the red circle in the sight glass. This oil is clear so you can see when it gets contaminated.

Don't push your air fill past the compressor’s spec which is 4350psi. A little less is usually better than the max, and the Yong Heng should last for years unless you get a bad one.

I did my first oil change at about an hour, it was extremely dark colored. I went far longer, between changes, after that.

I now have two YH compressors bought the second as a backup for the first as I fergot to turn on the coolant pump several times and overheated the first until it smoked. It did not like it but it continued to run just fine. Still I did not trust it after that. I added a switched outlet, to the system, so it turns the pump on before the compressor will power up to keep me from doing that from now on.

The second one, my back up unit, died in about two months bad QC from the factory. Cost me $12 for a new second stage piston and an hours’ time to replace it. Then to add insult to injury I fergot to put oil in, the latest unit after I put it back together, and ran it for several minutes without any. So I filled it with oil and it fired up and somehow still werqs fine. A testament to the oil it had in it before. The #1 unit that, I was worried about cuz I overheated it so many times, just kept on filling my guns and tanks till I got #2 repaired. The #1 unit got retired because it had the weak old style piston in it. I will replace that someday and have another good compressor.

I do not fill past 4200psi as when I do, all too often, I blow a burst disc. This may not happen on the first or second fill but soon thereafter it will.

The temperature sensor only measures head temperature so running it much over 20-30 minutes can overheat the motor and other parts even if ice is used in the coolant.

Ice or a container of it, in the coolant, is a good idea especially if you are like me and do not use the full five gallons of water as suggested in the manual.

Keep your water supply level with the compressor to be kind to the pump and assure a good supply of coolant goes through the compressor.

I recently started using this Red Line water treatment after I noticed algae growth in my 2.5 gallon water bucket every few months. It seems to have stopped or significantly slowed the algae growth. I will know more in a few months.

Three months has gone by with no discernable algae growth so the water treatment werqs for that long anyway.

Keep your moisture filters, guns and tanks being filled above the compressor to help keep the moisture out.

Purge the system of moisture, using the screw valves on both sides of the compressor, for a couple of seconds every five minutes while in use.

Change out your small YH filter every twenty minutes and set the old one out to dry and reuse later.

Add a better filter if needed to be sure more moisture and any oil smell is removed from the system. Many of us use this Tuxing three media filter although, if you feel the need, you can change media types at any time.

A smaller one will probly do for some in drier climates.

Possibly a filter/separator similar one of these, in addition to your desiccant filter, if humidity is high in your area and your desiccant filters have to be replaced often.

Bleed the pressure before you turn the unit off and let it run a few seconds to get the better part of the moisture out of the system. I have found that I blow less burst discs if I bleed before shutting down so I do this religiously.

Let the coolant pump run for a few minutes after shutdown to cool things off.

I run the compressor in my 65 degree basement with humidity levels between 55 and 65%. Your purging times, filter and cooling requirements may be different than mine if your humidity levels and temperatures are not the same.

'smarketbuy' on amazon .. moves alot of freight so your getting a late model fresh one .. mine came in an unopened sealed wood crate and was in perfect shape .... forget about warranties, its a generic pump, just use your head and dont beat it to death ... my opinion is ignore all the retarded fancy bs to try to make it better and just use common sense .. its only gonna last so long, but maybe several years unless you follow dufous advice and try to flog it ..

I bought a square trade warranty on Amazon and my Yong heng had a part rattle loose inside of a year after I bought it. They gave me 85 percent of my money back in a check and let me keep the broken unit. I am currently trying to fix it with parts from a second one. Square trade may have stopped honoring the warranty but I can promise you that when the manufacturer says it will warranty for up to a year they won't those guys basically told me to pack sand openly. When I made a complaint they just changed thier name and created a bunch of fake reviews saying stuff like "great unit American standard" and "fill air for all America alright". Anyway it can be a good compressor for awhile but honestly I went with an air venturi and never looked back. If you do get one I highly recommend getting the warranty. Worse case they refund your warranty best case you get most your money back when it fails within 4 years..... And it will.

In any market place whenever it's an option I always go with a square trade warranty. I've never had any problems getting refunded when and if the item goes South and is still covered. Does this mean or imply their 100% for everybody that's simply an unknown? But they have been more than square in my dealings with them.

Note: Go to their web site and file your seller's receipt with them to activate your coverage. Do while you still have everything fresh in hand and the seller may remember you and not some six months later. IF you fail to do this, you may have no warranty coverage friend.

To all who have taken the time to reply, THANKS VERY MUCH.

Quit a detailed list of information here, very appreciated.

Biohazardman,

on the Aliexpress link you provided: i have no idea what the difference between 3 of the 4 110VAC models listed are. The the simple version- which appears to do away with the inter or aftercooler makes some sense. Can you enlighten me on the differences between the 3 other 110VAC models?

  • 110v hardcover version ?

  • 110v set pressure version ?

  • 110v Automatic stop version ?

And it would make sense to get the set pressure version so that set point could be changed as needed.

Your help understanding this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I would recommend the Hardcover unit, fewer things to go wrong, and the weak spot on any of them is the pressure gauge. I have had mine for over three years now and it's working fine. Be prepared to do some periodic repairs, shop ahead so you don't get caught waiting for parts to arrive when you need them as can take weeks to arrive from China. For the price, you can't beat these units but there's always the ney sayers out there that chose to ditch rather than repair their broken ones. Just my 2cnts.

Waiting for Bio, to answer, I'll try to explain, as I see it. "Simple" version lacks Cyclone Water Separator, which you want to keep moisture out of gun. "Auto-Stop" cuts off at 3000psi which is low for most. Also, it's recommended to bleed pressure before shutting off compressor and "Auto-Stop" doesn't allow this. "Set Pressure" can be set to stop at any pressure, but most use this as a "safety valve" by setting slightly higher than needed. As gun or tank reaches fill, bleed compressor, as Bio noted, then shut down. If you forget, "Set Pressure" will shut off in "safety valve" mode. Not sure of "Hard Cover" version but Bio recommends and no reason to doubt tracker1955's claims.

WM.

The cyclone separator does not keep moisture out of your gun. Its purpose is to prevent some of the condenced liqid from the first stage causing hydraulic damage in the high pressure second stage. It only traps a small % of the total humidity. The auto-stop version does not shut down at 3000 PSI. It is set to stop when the gauge reaches 300 BAR (4350) and can easily be disabled. "Safety valve mode"does not exist. I suggest that you check your sorces before giving advice to others. Just because some one may give you sme help full advice does mean that their word is gospel. Passing unreliable data gathered from other posts is how misinformation grows legs and becomes seen as fact. I hope that you see this as constructive critism, I'm not just trying to be a dick.

Eaglebeak,

I stand corrected. True, I've passed on information from those I consider to be trusted sources. I've mentioned, in other threads, that I consider you to be a trusted source, as well. I've seen you spot scams and fraudsters long before others do and I appreciate that talent. My use of safety valve in quotes was my way of showing how someone may explain how I, and others, use the Set Pressure version. Wasn't meant to imply that the manufacturer ever designated such a mode. Also, when I open bleeder on my Cyclone Water Separator, water sprays out, I assumed, apparently incorrectly, that that water might have ended up in gun or tank. Thank you for correcting my mistakes and I apologize to anyone I've misled.

Simple version; YOU DO NOT WANT THIS ONE. It does NOT have the cyclone water separator to remove moisture from the system. So you have to buy some expensive aftermarket water separator or filter to do it for you or buy the parts and modify the Simple into a Hardcover.

Hardcover version; Has the water separator and you shut it off manually when you get to the PSI you want. Probly the best of them has all you need but no extra garbage to fail on you.

Set pressure version; You set the pressure you want it to stop at with a dial on the gauge, and it will turn off at that pressure. Is OK for a bit but the gauges need replaced every six months to a year for them to keep werqing correctly. Although I am a believer in purging the pressure before the unit shuts down I buy these and set them a few hundred higher than I want to go just in case I space out it will stop before any damage occurs or the burst disc blows. But replacing the gauges at $35 a pop is getting old.

Automatic stop version; Stops somewhere near 3000psi exactly where can be a mystery usually within 200 to 300psi one way or the other from what I gather on posts made here and there. Problem is it stops where it stops no adjustments to that. If you get a gun that fills higher you have to modify the thing to make it into a Hardcover to be useful.

Biohazardman and all the others who provided their input on this issue are very much appreciated!

Bihazardman and others thanks for the clarification of the compressor model types available and their details.

Will order the Hardcover version and some other add-ons that i believe to be beneficial ( the pre-intake dryer, the gold tube desiccant housing and media to fill it, some sort of rolling platform to mount all on, and maybe some other stuff. Already have 2 fans to blow over the unit to help cooling and for simplicity sake will use a 5 gal bucket, distilled H20 and some ice for the coolant liquid.

Any comments on that are welcome.

Does the YH compressors quick disconnect fit the 'foster' fitting on the input of the Benjamin Marauder SAM? ( Rifle i will charge w/ this unit). If not, what do i need to connect the output of the compressor w/ the input to the rifle tank?

Finally, and most important question to date: Is there any incidents that anyone here knows about where any component of the YH compressor experienced catastrophic failure when used to it's rated pressure of ~ 4350 psi? If so, consequences?

There is a huge amount of stored energy in pneumatics to this pressure, even in small volumes.

I am considering a safety enclosure for this China made compressor, just in case--thus my question.

Thanks again for all the input and assistance provided thus far from all you forum guys!

Sounds good, only thing on pre-intake dryer is that, I've heard they are ineffective and can be air-restricting. Bio may want to add input on this. The $59 gold aluminum tube I shared info, on another thread, with you includes two pre-filled plastic inserts, so no need to buy media. Female foster fitting on my Yong Heng fits male foster on my Gauntlet, if Marauder has same male foster, should be OK. On catastrophic incidents, not that I'm aware of. Burst discs, that are mentioned in Bio's narrative, will blow at set, high pressures to protect device and operator, like a circuit breaker protects from electrical shorts. My Yong Heng and the $59 gold tube both have installed burst disc protection, and spare replacement discs included. I've never heard a burst disc go off but some say pretty loud.

Further advice: Consider how your set-up will be, using Bio's picture, as reference. My set-up is very close but my compressor is on rack one shelf below fill shelf, not on floor. Gold filter mounted to vertical post. The Yong Heng comes with a 19" high pressure hose the screws into side of machine, other end screws into small black, cotton filled, aluminum filter with female foster on end. I found I needed to replace that with 36" high pressure hose to attach to gold filter. ($59 gold filter has male foster at bottom entrance and female foster at top exit.) You'll need a hose to exit from top of gold filter to foster on gun. In Bio's picture, look for two small black filters he has on both ends of gold filter. Since he had two from his Yong Hengs, he used both. I bought a similar one, in blue, for PCP hand pump, so I use two, as well. Picture how your rolling cart will be and get hoses, fittings to set-up, tank or gun always above compressor/filters, and filters always vertical. WM

Last two posts answer your questions well and correctly.

Tonight I filled my 'Great White' (9L) tank from 272 bar/3945 psi to 352 bar/5100 psi, shut down 30mins for tank cooling(not for Yong Heng). Then I filled the tank to 355 bar/5160 psi. So overnight the tank pressure will still hold at least 340 bar. I live in south California, tonight garage temperature was 27℃/80℉.

My Yong Heng is hardcover version, as manufactory call it 'standard version'. I always fill my tank like this over 1 year, never got any problem. I talked to the designer earlier this month. They tested that it can reach 6000 psi and under 75℃ is normal working range.

After 4 hours tank pressure dropped to 4979 psi/343 bar
