Well as it seem like finding a good pellet for a FX rifle have expanded and turned into a science. then i am expanding my collection of what i find relevant to shoot.

And hopefully be able to find something that shoot really well in my Maverick, where so far only the Beasts show signs of promise in the pellet catagory, back in the day with the .22 cyclone it was more easy or maybe i was just lucky, cuz there i picked up some JSB Jumbo 15.89 gr that shot well, but settled on the 18.13gr Jumbo heavy that shot even better.

And really i have not tried much else in the cyclone, CUZ why bother, not least as in the old days we only had a 15 M range, and the occasional 50 M shot at the damn seagulls nesting on the roof of the factory at the back of the garden.

So now waiting for good weather to run some FX and H&N ammo i got in the mail today thru the Maverick at various speeds to see how it like those, and hopefully something will work at reasonable speeds.

But i am not doing that in temperatures with a risk of freezing to the damn rifle :) or for that matter winds that make a guesswork out of where the pellet land.

Also i got the Vulcan 3 coming, which i assume will be more forgiving in regard to the food it like to eat.

Brian,

too cold to shoot? I'd offer you to shoot at my 100y range.

No freezing temperatures. Ever.

It's desert. Southern hemisphere. So, today I measured 31⁰C (88⁰F).

Don't mind the 7cm (3") of cow poop we'll be standing on...! 🤣

The fact that you aren't finding many pellets that shoot well in the Maverick seems odd to me. What barrel do you have — STX, I assume? Wasn't that developed specifically for JSB pellets?

Maybe something else is off, clipping in silencer/shroud maybe, or just really too much wind. It helps if you test pellets at shorter ranges — to reduce the influence that atmospheric conditions can have on your group sizes.

Peru sounds great to us danes right now. What are the laws in Peru in regards to smallgame hunting using airrifles?. Never been to Southamerica before..always been Africa for the big game hunting.

can one own firearms(huntingrifles) in Peru?. Is it difficult in generel to get huntingpermit for bigger games in Peru?..

Hasta luego(maybe)😜😜

Yes it is with a 600 mm STX superior liner, it is kind of a bastard gun ordered at the factory by the Danish dealer it is sort of a VP with a carbon bottle and in .177 caliber which only the compact was in the default lineup from the factory, and then i also got the FX hard case. Maybe thats why i waited 6 months for the rifle.

Yeah the rifle is giving me a hard time, when i got it i did not have a crono and i went for #7 on the wheel and the heavy pellets first, but they just dident group well at any power wheel setting, then i changed to the monster redesigns which actually shot well, but then i got the crono and i found out that on the #7 setting and with the factory 90 bar on the REG the MRD pellets flew sub 600 FPS, so slow the FC crono would not measure them on the high power PCP profile.

I have since backed out on the hammer screw and also attained higher speeds just fine, but at those speeds the monster redesigns will not fly well, though others seem to be able to shoot those okay at the higher end of the speed spectrum, for me shooting a magazine of 21 shots they make 3 hole groups spiced with a few "fliers" in random directions.

I have of course tried without my silencer too and the FX crono not mounted to the rifle, and starting at speeds around 1000 FPS and then working my way down in speed from there, but the pellets just will not play the game i want to play.

It was my hope to shoot heavier pellets and slugs, and then when it become possible transition to just shooting slugs, but the way the world is, and not least in .177 i dont think that day will ever come.

I am sort of hoping we get a FT & benchrest club set up here, so i via membership there can upgrade the maverick to .22

Peru this time of the year sound good, i have been to the Argentine capitol in 1990, probably the furthest south i have ever been. Got a mighty good and mighty large steak down there,,, meatlover heaven :)

Leftovers from cows do not bother me, i am a farm boy myself, though that only lasted until i was 1 year old or so.

Danish winters now are not like in the old days / my childhood in the 70ties, but for a lover of high temperatures plenty cold, but it seem where i live in the middle / eastern of Jutland the days with reasonable low wind are also the very coldest days.

I can now clamp my gun down 100% so i will for sure be able to tell what go where and why ( ruling out shooter error ) but i need a day with very little wind at our range which is at a N / S direction and the Western wind are the dominant wind here.So shooting North the wind are always from the Left.

Rigbymauser,

getting firearms licenses in Peru is a mess, a bribe-ingested territory, a bureaucratic nightmare. Ask me how I know (4 attempts, more money spent than the gun cost, and still no license, and still no gun — it's locked away in the govmnt's gun safe. Nope, no refund from the store, either.) 😖

Hunting permits for big game? — don't know if that's easy.

Airgun hunting laws are OK, fowl/ birds, rabbits, chinchilla, not much else on the official list. No stupid power restrictions like in Germany! 😄

Sorry for being a naive. I was actually thinking there were no laws in Peru in regards to firearms. Get a rifle and bribe the local police if caught. Some african countries its impossible to get firearms into but once you are in that country getting a firearm( often military) is no problem.

I was already portraying myself sitting in a canoe shooting monkyes, jungle pigs etc of whatever pops up. Maybe do some fishing from the sandbanks during low tide. I had it all figured out you see😎😎😂

Yupp, in the jungle a lot of things are possible — though there are differences between the tropical jungle of Peru and the urban jungle of its capital....

Look me up if you happen to travel to my neck of the woods! 😊 — Peru is an incredible country, full of beauty, wilderness, ancient history, and the world's best food.

I once worked on a ship with a Chilean guy, if he is indicative of the people in that area, things are looking good.

O am am going to get that Maverick to shoot well, even if i have to buy a new barrel in the same caliber or a larger one. :)

But i do also think when i get the Vulcan 3 the work on the Maverick might slow down, at least until summer really hit, we also still have a lot of work to do in the field at my friends house in regard to the model railroad we are building there too ( large G scale trains )

But in my age, and my friend not able to do a lot due to his health, a lot of breaks are needed, and when summer get here it is light outside for a long while, and if not i also have a substantial collection of powerful flashlights to illuminate the targets, or we can also run a extension chord and put up a LED work light

There will be shooting going on, and i have no doubt i will have to get more ammo to tie me over for the summer, actually i also ordered a few 1000 pellets with the Vulcan 3

We are contemplating putting a target on a train and have it go back and forth on a oval track,,,,, behind something solid as the trains are not cheap, actually my big steam locomotive its MSRP was in the territory of quality PCP airguns, but we are planning on using a smaller loco for that.

Brian,

that's the BOY inside the MAN thinking!!!

GREAT IDEA, awesome idea. Moving target!

You could have one guy operating the train going back and forth, even with several tracks and intersections.

And the other guy trying to get as many hits on it during a set time.

Then switch. And see who gets more hits.

Moving targets — on a model train. What a great idea! 🤣

you can also get cable cars in this model size, replace the cable cars them self with a devise that can hold a target, they do also have somewhat adjustable cable speed and dwell time duration.

It was my initial idea to use that, but my friend said his cable car contraption broke.

Old video from his old garden with cable cars and me driving a 1:24 RC car and one of the trains.

https://youtu.be/46utkcsfrkc?t=38

My broken down RC car get a tow home instead of carrying it.

https://youtu.be/cfSQdbwetJg?t=90

We also have a wide range of RC cars, and not least the scale 4 x 4 trucks which have a top speed of 15 km/h or something might be suited, but the field are very bumpy / overgrown too so i think it will be hard to hit.

Also the cars are often expensive costing 400 USD or more just for the car, and then come the electronic and various upgrades so often you are driving a 1000 dollar car.

But due to their low range gearing they can drive very slow, and i dont think you need to go fast before hitting a 12 x 12 cm target on 50 M get hard to do.
