Energy Calculation

Disregard my sight height or anything else. Just got your question info fast.

And you click the green + for the accuracy vote lol.
It's all pretty simple once you have the free app.

Strelok Pro is $11.99 for advanced information on ballistics.

ChairGun is free and is very useful for running hypotheticals and answering questions like this.

Also, troubling your friends on the forum is free and very useful for running hypotheticals and answering questions like this. :)

I don’t subscribe to apps.

Ironically, the latter is the one that requires a subscription

Thank you. I don’t subscribe to apps. Easier to shoot at known targets and learn my rifle. Old school and just plan stubborn. At least that what they tell me.

I am myself also more of a APP deleting person than a APP installing one, there is google stuff on my android phone i would like to remove too if i could.

Would love for next phone to not be android,,,,, and sure as hell not IOS either, but true alternatives are hard to find here in relevant phones.

I'm SO with you... We don' need no STINK-ING APPS! I'm about as allergic to complicating the computer/high-tech puzzle as you are.

However airgunners DO need ballistics information; as evidenced by your post. A good place to start is knowing that downrange energy is directly related to the ballistic coefficient of the projectile; ANY projectile. From that starting point, an excellent next step is familiarizing yourself with some trajectory calculator (NO APP NECESSARY).

I've relied on an excellent alternative to APPS for about a decade for my airgun external ballistics information, that alternative "so simple, even a cave-man can do it". Witness the fact EVEN I CAN

FWIW, the simple alternative to APPS that I link to below has proven its worth in helping capture every State and National Champion title pictured here-

I’m really not sure why you guys see so much of a difference between an “App” and going to a website to plug your numbers into their calculator. Just as much “risk” if not more from whatever it is that one should be afraid of (hacking, viruses, etc.)

For me, I’ll use an App every time. It’s what we dreamed of when I was a kid, namely that you could have a calculator sized device of your own with the power of a (at the time) supercomputer.

There are many who think yesterday was (in general) better than today. I’m not one. Of course, there are situations that may be bad now, and from time to time. But, in general, progress is real IMHO.

Apps are super scary, mom and cub aside they're the most threatening thing around. Steer clear ye have been warned!

I've been a Computer Scientist since 1990. I've got code running on DoD platforms from Rivet Joint to Tomahawk and some classified systems.

If you put your faith in tech. You are putting it in the clowns who are writing code today. Most of them believe they are smarter than you and that you should just give them access to any data they want and trust that they will never violate your confidence.

It is the dumbest kind of "free crap" I've seen in 30 years in the industry. It is mostly crap and mostly NOT free.

Phone apps are a problem as compared to downloading a computer program (App)I’ve stopped downloading apps to my phone a couple

of years ago and the amount of garbage I get dropped significantly. Dont know if you have an iPhone but now you can see all the info many of them get about you when you use phone apps that is none of their business. Not everyone is Ok with that.

For close to 15-20 years I have been using a ballistic program I got from a a place called Handloads.com. Can't find the place anymore but I do have the program and it works great. It worked on my Windows XP, Windows 7 computer and still works with Windows 10.

I just made a folder in my computer and put the program files in it. Then created a shortcut on my desktop to the file that starts the program. NO INTERNET CONNECTION NEEDED.

All the stuff in purple doesn't work but the ballistic coefficients(BC) calculator part does and of course the ballistic calculator its self.

The program consists of 4 folders and just 10 files. Total size less than 50kb. I would include it here but can't figure out how to download the files in the folders.

It furnishes results in table format. Here are screen shots of what it looks like and and the resulting table.

Appreciate all the feedback fellas.. Just wanted to know the energy.. Last thing I want to do is be looking at a "smart phone" while hunting. I don't shoot targets.. I just want know where i'm hitting at 25, 30...up to about 60 yards....If the app makes you a better hunter then that's great..

I use a range finder with ballistics, there is one like that on the classified, I range and I get the hold overs and clicks along with the distance. Best tool for hunting... I use the app when building turrets tapes but with my new range finder I'm not building turrets tapes anymore

Folks, it is quite simple to limit what the Apps can get and do with your information, at least with Apple phone and the newer iOS. I don’t give permission to track, or to do anything when i am not actually using the App. As for all the “new stuff being crap, especially compared to back when i was coding COBOL and FORTRAN” (Not saying YOU said that, just paraphrasing a lot of stuff I see) well, as an old guy who did code in COBOL, the new stuff is no worse and often much better. Of course you have to be careful and choose wisely.

But for me, I use all the new technological aids I can, and I am careful what I allow, what I tell them and which ones I install.
