I was in the past (in the 80s) making electric triggers for firearms and crossbows where the solenoid plunger will accelerate and release the sear. I preferred to use a higher voltage (E= 1/2 C V2 ), about 300-400V - basically the circuit of a small electronic flash (and I was using the flash circuit and capacitors from the disposable film cameras: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disposable_camera ). There is really no need for any other electronics as we do want to dump all the capacitor energy in the solenoid. A simple way is the use a SCR. The currents are high, but the duration short so the SCR need not be at the full current rating and can be quite small in size.
