Edgun Synthetic Stock Stippling

Wanted a "grippier" fore-end and pistol grip area..

Started with the "layout"..

Then made a template out of a pie-pan bottom for the other side..

Then used a Weller battery powered soldering iron with a modified "trocar" point..

The border was done with a Dremel tool, then I used the Stippling tool to create a border and then begin filling in..

At this point I was thinking OMG what have I done..

Still need to do some fill in..but I think it will finish up OK.

DON'T fill anything. Just lightly sand the high / sharp areas off. It'll be fine.

I did much the same on a wood pistol grip. With the wood, the "extruded" (sharp edges) don't happen they way that they do with plastic, but end up looking much the same.

I heavily reshaped the grip on my 6004 FAS. Then hit it with a vibrating penciled (carbide tipped). The picture doesn't show well. Even though, in the picture, it looks like the stippling is different top to bottom, it really isn't. In real life, it's pretty even top to bottom, and all the way around

Thx. Yep..understood on the " lightly sand the high / sharp areas off". That will be the last step before paint. By "fill", I just meant hitting the open spaces in the stippling..it's amazing how taking a zoomed picture shows all the things you miss with just "readers".

This is the 100% pre-paint.. Color will be FDE. Aluma-Hyde.

Does this edgun stock have the “soft touch” coat on it? (I apologize, but I’ve never owned an edgun). If so, must the soft touch coat be removed prior to applying the aluma Hyde?

I, too, am a big fan of FDE color, and have been wanting to paint one of my wildcat stocks to FDE. Was wondering if the soft touch needed to be removed first.

if it does need prior removal as the prep, what’s the best way to remove soft touch coats?

Not sure as Ias I picked mine up in the classified. There was some sort of surface coating but not sure if it was "factory" or applied by the previous owner. It almost looked like truckbed liner spreay..IDK

Was wondering if the soft touch needed to be removed first.

I removed down to the base material. Make sure to use a paint mask when sanding..and do outside..really fine particles and messy black dust.

I used 60 and 100 grit sandpaper followed by a Dremel "flapper" sanding wheel. The "purple" sandpaper seemed really abrasive for the grit rating..you could probably go to 200 or 320.
