EDgun slug inquiry

I did try Neilsen slugs in the 2 edguns I own

R-5 super long 30 caliber the 47 grains shot under 1 moa at 150m

R-5 super mag in 25 caliber bolt acton , I tried a few slugs none grouped well in my gun ( I think they were too big for bore)

At what speed did you shoot the slugs out of the R5 .30 ?

I can't get them to group well in my R5 long .30, even though there is a lot of positive feedback on the .30 edgun slugs.

I bought the R5 30 long to shoot NSA 47's. I tested with the Huma from 115 Bar to 130 Bar. The best results were at 130 at 895 fps. But...I could not beat the groups that I got with the 44 gr Edgun pellets. The POI even seemed to wander over the course of the day at times. I will do some more testing but the gun remains a pellet gun for now. My next gun will be a R5M in .25 with a dedicated slug barrel if Ed does one. Ed....are you listening ....?

I have had a similar experience. Huma reg at 130 adjusted to 900 FPS for 47 gr Nielsen slugs, 920fps for JSB 50 gr pellets. The pellets will give 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards, while the slugs seem to spiral and it’s hard to get 50 yard groups under 2 inches. Gets worse at 70 yards. Any idea why different people are having different results with these slugs ? Could they be clipping the baffles of the moderator? Would the fact that it was 30 degrees out effect slug stability but not pellets?

Эд himself just addressed this very topic. I posted to General because it seems to a more broad topic at the moment than just projectiles or guns.

That "voice of reason" hit the nail on the head for me. Got me thinkin' about my obsession to find accuracy with slugs. If I could buy barrels readily in any choice of bore and twist I'd probably spend more time machining and testing. If I thought I could duplicate Rabbit's 47's at 150M I'd buy a super long tomorrow. I'm looking at a hunting rig shooting ground squirrels at no less than 50yds and often well over 100 in often times swirling mountain winds. I think I'll just ride on with JSB .44's in my R5 .30 and wait to see what Ed comes up with next. Seems like we're getting into some fun times with these PCP's with a lot of choices. Thanks Ed !

Cheers,Scott

I have an Edgun r5m 22cal and have just tuned down to 112 bar for the jsb 18gr @900fps and having the best luck with the nsa 17.5 slugs. But i have run out of the 18gr and have a lot of the jsb 25gr and nsa 20.2 so I turned up the hs tension and could only get the 25gr to 850fps and that’s fine shot well and the nsa 20.2 also. So I have just a few nsa 17.5 and they shot outstanding a clear slug to shoot and then chrony them @1000fps and they were fine @870fps but @1000fps did outstanding @50-75-100 and 120yrd. I believe that they are exiting the gun so fast that they are not as hold sensitive and I can not be any more pleased. Hope that helps
