Edgun R5M or tipan veteran

I own both in standard.I would give them both high marks in everything but reliability. I would give the veteran a big thumbs up in .25 and the r5m in .25 not so much. Right now mine doesn't feed so well. I hear the 10 shot magazine calibers have no issue whatsoever. My .25 with the 9 shot mag has issues with the magazine indexing for the next shot. I hope to get to the bottom of this. Until then I would go veteran every time.

I’ve got the r5m 25long and if I short stroke the action it doesn’t feed right. You may need to pull the action block and clean the piece that rotates the mag. As long as I fully rack the action I don’t have any issues. I had to purchase the stock separate. I’ve also added the bat moderator and it’s made the gun quieter. The pic is before the bat mod. I really like the vet too, the rear lever is the only reason I don’t have one.

Make sure the screw on the anti-double load lever is tightened down. I had a problem on my R5M where the bolt that pushes down on the indexing plate was catching on the edge of the plate preventing the cocking lever to go forward. A simple tightening of the screw on the lever solved the issue. If this is not the problem with yours, I'm not too sure what it is. I recall that the old alloy/metal magazines had problems cycling in the R3M compared to the new polymer mags.

I got the R5M long .22 in Blue Laminate from Dairyboy. It is turning out to be a great gun. I had minor issue with air in my face, but it just turned out to be the breach o-ring was like .017 mm too small. Replaced it and did a good cleaning of the barrel and now it is shooting great ever since! I shoots slugs better than pellets, and is nearly MOA with slugs. I felt confident enough to take it down to EBR and Placed 8th and 13th (out of 36) in the first to heaps, missed the finials by two spots. And all the mistakes were my fault. So, it can hold it's own.

The advantages of the gun is the low reg pressures. Everything in the gun is set wide open and it can really achieve high power with low operating pressures. I am in the process of raising my regulator pressure form 145bar (50 fpe) to 170bar (which will without a doubt give me 62fpe or higher). Most of guns .22 guns shooting Redesignes at the same power in the EBR need a 185-190bar to achieve those results. The other advantage (for me) of the is the forward cocking lever on both sides. I can't go back from that now.

As for the Verteran, I do NOT own, but hear form reputable member's on this form that it is a great gun! Trigger is the best on the market. Accuracy is amazing (probably better than my R5M form what I have seen on line). I've never head a member say anything bad about the gun. It probably is the "best bang for the buck" on the market. It really makes me tempted to get one someday too. Plus, the new laminate stocks...wow.

It was great that the tread mentioned the RTI Priest. I got my first up close look at one at EBR. The build quality is much much better that what I thought. Then with the accuracy was amazing. The RTI team WON the 50 yard bench and could of won the 100 yard, if it was not for first competition mistakes. . Watch it in the future, it WILL be wining many more competitions. I was so impressed with what the gun was doing that now I stared saving for one.

Hope this helps.

I owned and shot both. I still have the Veteran Shorty and love it. Sometimes the, 'can't double load' the Veteran feature has helped lots. Not being dumb could also be a feature. What I didn't like about the Edgun is every time you shoot the hammer strikes very near where you cheek rests on the gun and it makes a loud ping. It got really annoying to me so I sold it. Maybe not an issue with others. The Veteran has an accesory from Donny FL that allows easy adjustment of the hammer spring tension. No tools needed after you install it and it's easier to see the adjustment to make sure it's where you want it to be.

I love my R5M standard .25...But unfortunately she's bout to get put up for sell here on AGN this weekend...My R5 .30 is my go to gun...

How hard is that .30 to cock? Does the rear cocking lever bother you?

I know this was not intended for me to answer, However I can offer my opinion on cocking the R5 .30. It's not bad at all. You may or may not have watched my latest video. I reload it at least twice in the video. It might give you an idea of how much effort it takes. As for the rear cocking lever, I personally like it. You have to load a pellet anyway so you are already off target at that point. It's simple and pretty much fail safe. I'm very happy with it. Good luck!
