EDgun R5M Barrel Alignment Procedure

I recently purchased an EDgun R5M rifle and noted my barrel was out of alignment. This was documented here:

Several other folks responded they had seen the same thing with their rifles. I'm terrible at eyeballing alignment so I put together a simple procedure that should get the alignment close to perfect. Here's how I did it.

  1. Get two 5.5mm small pieces of drill stock. I ordered mine from McMaster-Carr (https://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/2900A322) for roughly $4.50 each.
  2. Loosen the barrel nut
  3. Insert the drill stock into the two hole in the barrel nut rest.

  4. Level the rifle using the scope rail.

  5. Place the level on the drill stock and twist the rest until both level measurement places are in alignment.

  6. Hand tighten the barrel nut slightly and verify both level measurement have not shifted.
  7. Put a piece of tape on both the rest and the barrel shroud. Draw a witness mark to verify the rest does not shift during torque down.

  8. Torque the barrel to 12 foot lbs per zx10wall.

You can see from my original post that my barrel was out of alignment by 17 degrees. Hopefully, this procedure is useful to others.

It should be at dead center 6 o’clock or it will throw your shots off. In the back of the gun the barrel sits at 6. If the front isn’t then the barrel is obviously canted to one side so the farther out you shoot, the farther the pellets will walk from the center of the scope. Mine was out of alignment too and this process put her back to dead nutz center.
