Edgun R5 Super Long .30

After a long time of keeping an eye out for one I finally got my dream .30. The Edgun R5 Super Long in a beautiful brown laminate stock to boot!

I've always admired Edguns and have always wanted to own one of his single shot guns. Lots of people look at that as a disadvantage but I actually really like it.

My plan for this gun is simply high shot count pellet shooter that isn't a bottle gun. Accuracy over power. I decided to join the crowd and get a Huma XXL plenum regulator for the gun. The stock reg was working good but I figured being a .30 the extra plenum would be beneficial. Stock it was shooting 966fps at max with the 44.75gr JSBs. Have no need for something that hot though. I believe reg was set around 125bar? So with the Huma I set the reg at 105bar just to see where it'd get me. Maxed out at 922fps and I tuned it to 900fps. Gun is a laser at this setting. Might try to try lowering the reg to 100bar and tune for the 860-880 range. But at this point very happy with it. Will be playing with barrel tension also to find the most accurate combo.

Scope picture isn't the one that's on it now. I set it up with my SWFA 10x42 Mil-quad. I will be dialing my shots with this gun and am looking forward to setting up the scope with JeffDodge's scope stickers.

Super nice! And single shot Eddys are the best. Try some NSA slugs in that beast, the high 40 to low 50 grain HP DB versions seem best. Derrick would know better than me, he has the .30 SL. I have the .25 R5 Super Magnum not the .30 Super Long. I also have a .22 R3 Long that is one of my most accurate guns, right up there with my .30 FX Bobcat Mk2...

Thanks guys! Yup gotta say the single shots rock.

Thanks again Nate for the gun! Looking forward to how yours goes.

Oh yeah this one ain't leaving my hands Derrick! Also I should try out those 47.2gr slugs eventually. But got quite a few tins of 44.75gr so might be awhile lol. Unless I try them and find there just amazing... 😁

Thanks Mike! Yeah I've seen you had a few of the single shots so figured they must be pretty good! I did talk to Derrick about his already and do think I'll need to give some NSAs a try even though I don't need to shoot slugs. But still am curious!

Thanks Randall! Can't believe I left that part out. Honestly out of all the .30s I've owned this is probably the most docile in terms of recoil and noice I've shot. I can say it's a backyard friendly gun I mean besides the pellet noise lol. And the ping that many Edgun users talk about is non existent on this gun which I enjoy!

LOU these are great guns glad you own one also!

Yeah Matt I do like short guns and this ones as long as it gets for me! Yeah it's quite a great gun. I do love how Ed designed them with the action sitting further back. Quite ingenious. I mean 38" OAL with a 27.5" barrel is impressive! But don't worry you'll see very shortly I still like short guns 😁

There is a funny story about the NSA-EDgun slugs. Nick was not going to keep making them, this particular slug did not shoot well in most.300 barrels. The R5 was pretty new, and I brought it to a fun shoot with Nick at a local spot here. Nick says to me, " Bryan, you care if I shoot slugs through this gun/" "I have a bunch of these, and they don't shoot well in most 300 barrels". Fast forward 20 minutes, I now find Nick at the bench with the R5 tethered to his big-bore tank, he says to me, "look at my 100-yard group, just one big hole". The NSA EDgun slug was born, or better said "re-born" Congrats on the new SL, there aren't that many of them in the USA.

PS yes there will be more NSA EDgun friendly slugs in the future....keep your eyes peeled 😉

'grats, Dillon. Glad you are super hyped! Pulling all the stops on it right out of the gate, nice...

How is the carry on these? 38" and all, but how do you all (Dillon, Derek, David) find the weight and balance.

I almost, for like the 4th time now, made an offer on that one Dillon. And yours, David...you had it up the same time and, if I'm not mistaken, a few other times, no? The only reason I've held myself back, besides fear of being smothered in my sleep 😁, was whether the weight was the carry killer for woods walking.

This from a guy with a Flex and a Sumatra 500cc, an Mrod (w/extension currently) and 2 other heavy-ish bullpups...😋. But deciding NOT to add to that collection of great but awkward carries. As Derek knows, I am but a small, small man..who for some reason keeps buying long, long air guns. 🙈

Just wondering how hard I should consider it the next time. I know it's worth buying on technical merits alone, but it seems more of a bench gun than anything else. While I do mostly target practice/shooting, I do lotsa lotsa carrying.

Good to know Brian! I'll be keeping an eye out for slugs from NSA!

Thanks Matt!

Thanks Dave! Honestly I think it balances very nice for such a big bullpup. Better than a long rifle like a RAW or something similar. I mean mine will be mostly shot off a bipod for longer range pesting and shooting. I have a different gun for walking around with which I'll show shortly also.

Yeah I thought the same thing. I was hoping Ed would bring them about again and in all calibers. I would bet a long .22 R5 would be a heck of a long range shooter with slugs!
