I really like the R5. Something about single shots for me. One shot one kill. I take my time and wait for the one perfect opportunity then let her rip, because it’s all I’ve generally got. Once they bust me, they just disappear into the forest. They are masters of the hide!

Yes, part of me was thinking it might be overkill for squirrels, and certainly it can be done with much less (no one will argue that). I chose more power and the larger caliber because sometimes I see coyotes in the area I hunt. It gives me a better opportunity for a humane kill on one. But here’s the thing... The .30 does a super job on squirrels! It give you a better chance of impact, where it counts, due to its large diameter. There’s no need for expansion with a hollow point, it’s already .300” lol. In fact, these guys sound like .25 hollow point when they hit! “This setup is not backyard friendly!” They hit hard...  Not to mention they fly true and the BC is much better than a hollow point pellet. Let’s face it, the squirrel can’t be too dead, and I’m certainly not eating the head. 🤓.
